Home Run Derby is slated for May 18

The ninth an­nu­al An­drew Far­rell Spir­it of Cour­age Home Run Derby char­ity fun­draiser will take place on Sat­urday, May 18, at George Wash­ing­ton High School. People of all skill levels are in­vited to com­pete. 

Pro­ceeds will be­ne­fit Chil­dren’s Hos­pit­al of Phil­adelphia and a schol­ar­ship giv­en to a Wash­ing­ton play­er who most ex­em­pli­fies Far­rell on and off the field. Far­rell died in 2004 after a long battle with leuk­emia. He was 21. He was a pitch­er/first base­man on the Wash­ing­ton base­ball team and a pop­u­lar team­mate who was a mem­ber of the Eagles’ 2001 un­defeated reg­u­lar sea­son team. His No. 25 jer­sey has been re­tired.

The con­test be­gins at 9:30 a.m. The cost is $25. Par­ti­cipants will re­ceive a com­mem­or­ative T-shirt. To re­gister or for more in­form­a­tion, go to an­drew­far­rell.org ••
