The ninth annual Andrew Farrell Spirit of Courage Home Run Derby charity fundraiser will take place on Saturday, May 18, at George Washington High School. People of all skill levels are invited to compete.
Proceeds will benefit Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and a scholarship given to a Washington player who most exemplifies Farrell on and off the field. Farrell died in 2004 after a long battle with leukemia. He was 21. He was a pitcher/first baseman on the Washington baseball team and a popular teammate who was a member of the Eagles’ 2001 undefeated regular season team. His No. 25 jersey has been retired.
The contest begins at 9:30 a.m. The cost is $25. Participants will receive a commemorative T-shirt. To register or for more information, go to andrewfarrell.org ••
