Mayfair Heroes Run, the May Fair are Saturday

May­fair will be home to plenty of activ­it­ies on Sat­urday.

The fifth an­nu­al May­fair Fallen Her­oes Run and Walk will kick off at the Ab­ra­ham Lin­coln High School park­ing lot, at Sack­ett Street and Ry­an Av­en­ue. It’s sponsored by the May­fair Busi­ness As­so­ci­ation and May­fair Civic As­so­ci­ation.

The entry fee is $25. Re­gis­tra­tion runs from 7:30 to 8:20 a.m., fol­lowed by the na­tion­al an­them. The run/walk starts at 8:30 and takes par­ti­cipants around Lin­coln, Aus­tin Mee­han Middle School and Pennypack Park.

The fin­ish line is at May­fair Me­mori­al Play­ground, at Row­land Av­en­ue and Vista Street. Awards will be presen­ted at 10:30 a.m.

The event, to be held rain or shine, will be in hon­or of slain po­lice of­ficer Church Cas­sidy. Pro­ceeds will go to the play­ground and Hero Thrill Show Inc., which provides col­lege schol­ar­ships for the chil­dren of Phil­adelphia po­lice of­ficers and fire­fight­ers who were killed in the line of duty.

Mean­while, the May­fair Busi­ness As­so­ci­ation will hold the May­fair May Fair on Sat­urday.

The day will in­clude live mu­sic, prizes, giveaways, side­walk sales, car­ni­val games and craft vendors. Park­ing will be free along Frank­ford Av­en­ue, from Har­bison Av­en­ue to Rhawn Street.

Frank­ford Av­en­ue will be closed from Cottman to Bleigh av­en­ues from noon to 5 p.m.

At Frank­ford and Bleigh, the Philly Soft Pret­zel Fact­ory will hold a cus­tom­er ap­pre­ci­ation day, fea­tur­ing a Moon­bounce, pret­zel-eat­ing con­test and many more fun activ­it­ies.

En­ter­tain­ers will in­clude AJ Slick, Soul to Soul, Mike Mc­Cul­lough, Mike Le­Compt and Rev. The Great­er Pennsylvania Mil­it­ary His­tor­ic­al So­ci­ety will have mil­it­ary vehicles on dis­play.

The May­fair Town Watch will have a dunk tank, with City Coun­cil­man Bobby Hen­on and state Rep. Kev­in Boyle among those vo­lun­teer­ing to get dunked.
    Bisirri Pansy Gar­dens and the Lin­coln hor­ti­cul­ture academy will help chil­dren pot  plants.

The 15th Po­lice Dis­trict Ad­vis­ory Coun­cil will hold its com­munity day, with activ­it­ies and in­form­a­tion tables set up along the 3500 block of Ry­an Ave.
