Mayfair Heroes Run, the May Fair are Saturday

Mayfair will be home to plenty of activities on Saturday.

The fifth annual Mayfair Fallen Heroes Run and Walk will kick off at the Abraham Lincoln High School parking lot, at Sackett Street and Ryan Avenue. It’s sponsored by the Mayfair Business Association and Mayfair Civic Association.

The entry fee is $25. Registration runs from 7:30 to 8:20 a.m., followed by the national anthem. The run/walk starts at 8:30 and takes participants around Lincoln, Austin Meehan Middle School and Pennypack Park.

The finish line is at Mayfair Memorial Playground, at Rowland Avenue and Vista Street. Awards will be presented at 10:30 a.m.

The event, to be held rain or shine, will be in honor of slain police officer Church Cassidy. Proceeds will go to the playground and Hero Thrill Show Inc., which provides college scholarships for the children of Philadelphia police officers and firefighters who were killed in the line of duty.

Meanwhile, the Mayfair Business Association will hold the Mayfair May Fair on Saturday.

The day will include live music, prizes, giveaways, sidewalk sales, carnival games and craft vendors. Parking will be free along Frankford Avenue, from Harbison Avenue to Rhawn Street.

Frankford Avenue will be closed from Cottman to Bleigh avenues from noon to 5 p.m.

At Frankford and Bleigh, the Philly Soft Pretzel Factory will hold a customer appreciation day, featuring a Moonbounce, pretzel-eating contest and many more fun activities.

Entertainers will include AJ Slick, Soul to Soul, Mike McCullough, Mike LeCompt and Rev. The Greater Pennsylvania Military Historical Society will have military vehicles on display.

The Mayfair Town Watch will have a dunk tank, with City Councilman Bobby Henon and state Rep. Kevin Boyle among those volunteering to get dunked.
Bisirri Pansy Gardens and the Lincoln horticulture academy will help children pot plants.

The 15th Police District Advisory Council will hold its community day, with activities and information tables set up along the 3500 block of Ryan Ave.
