‘Healthcare in Retirement’ topic of NORC meeting

Two financial advisers visited last month’s meeting of the Rhawnhurst Naturally Occurring Retirement Community and outlined how senior citizens could pay for life’s essentials.

Mark Michelman and Dominic Marinucci, of the U Financial Group, spoke on, “A Guide to Covering Your Medical Expenses: Healthcare in Retirement.” They used a slide show to explain that a senior’s three costliest living expenses are housing, food and health care.

Michelman and Marinucci explained that there are a number of dependable sources of income that can pay for those expenses. Reliable sources of income include a senior’s pension, Social Security check, annuity, 401k plan, savings account or even a part-time job.

In developing a financial strategy, the advisers include money that can be spent to travel or entertain family and friends.

In other news from the Feb. 28 meeting, a nurse from the St. John Neumann Nursing Home provided free blood-pressure screenings.

Also, Carol Rogers and Michael Olorunnisola spoke about HealthyPhiladelphia’s goal to bring a health care center in the Northeast. The center would be for people needing simple checkups or those with chronic health problems such as high blood pressure, heart disease and asthma. It would also offer cancer screenings.
