Brides­burg His­tor­ic­al So­ci­ety talk
The next meet­ing of the Brides­burg His­tor­ic­al So­ci­ety will be held to­night at 7:30 p.m, at  All Saints’ Mari­an Hall, on the north­w­est corner of  Ed­ge­mont and Bucki­us streets.

Dav­id Szew­czyk will talk on the found­ing of the Frank­ford Ar­sen­al in 1816 and its early dec­ades up to the end of the Civil War. Ad­mis­sion is free and open to the pub­lic.  Re­fresh­ments will be served. For in­form­a­tion, call 215-535-3828. ••

Mo­ve­On coun­cil to meet
Mo­ve­On.org is start­ing a loc­al coun­cil group in the 19125 ZIP code to edu­cate about and work on na­tion­al, state and loc­al is­sues in or­der to build a pro­gress­ive base of civic-minded cit­izens con­cerned about good gov­ern­ment and so­cial justice.

Ladies of Port Rich­mond fun­draiser

East­er candy at Beth­esda United
Beth­esda United Meth­od­ist Church, 2820 E. Ven­ango St., will sell homemade East­er candy on Sat­urday, March 23, and Sat­urday, March 30, from 10 a.m. to noon at the church.

Lure Salon Cut-a-Thon for Matty Holmes
On Sunday, March 24, join neigh­bors and friends at Lure Salon, 3247 E. Thompson St., for a Cut-a-Thon from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., to be­ne­fit the Matty Holmes Schol­ar­ship Fund. Kids cuts are $5, teens are $15, adults are $20; this in­cludes hair­cuts only, not blow-dry or style. ••

Fishtown chili cook-off
The Fishtown Neigh­bors As­so­ci­ation is host­ing its third an­nu­al chili cook-off on Sunday, March 24, from 1 to 4 p.m. at 2424 Stu­di­os, 2424 E. York St. Ten am­a­teur Fishtown con­test­ants will be joined by entries from last year’ win­ner, Loco Pez, as well as Sketch Bur­ger, Bar­cade, East Gir­ard Gast­rop­ub, In­ter­state Draft­house, Fishtown Tav­ern, Ce­dar Point Bar & Kit­chen, Lloyd, and more. Beer gen­er­ously provided by Phil­adelphia Brew­ing Com­pany and Ne­sham­iny Creek Brew­ing Com­pany.

Come and cast your vote for the best pro­fes­sion­al and people’s choice win­ner along­side Drew Lazor (pree­m­in­ent food blog­ger), Wendy Rollins (Ra­dio 104.5) and oth­er sur­prise judges.

East­er egg hunt at Frank Glav­in
Frank Glav­in Play­ground, 2600 West­mo­re­land St., in­vites chil­dren aged 2 to 8 years to at­tend its yearly East­er egg hunt, on Thursday, March 28 from noon to 1 p.m. Pre-re­gis­tra­tion at the play­ground of­fice, no later than Monday, March 25, is re­quired. Pic­tures with the East­er Bunny will also be avail­able dur­ing the event for a $4 fee. Re­fresh­ments will also be avail­able for sale. ••

Zom­bies’ Base­ball Club seeks play­ers
The Zom­bies, a men’s base­ball team that plays in the New Jer­sey In­de­pend­ent Base­ball league, is look­ing for play­ers 18 and over for the 2013 sea­son.

Brides­burg Cou­gars cheer­lead­ing signups
