Sweeney Field

Friends, fam­ily and col­leagues re­mem­ber fallen fire­fight­er Daniel Sweeney with a second-an­nu­al soft­ball tour­na­ment at Fox Chase Rec Cen­ter.

  • Sweeney’s colleagues from Ladder 10 and Engine 7 took on a Fox Chase team from McNally’s on Rhawn in the inaugural game.

  • Sweeney’s parents, David and Marian, took part in the field dedication along with City Councilman Brian O’Neill.

  • Sweeney died along with Lt. Robert Neary on April 9, 2012, at the scene of a Kensington warehouse fire.

Gone, but not for­got­ten: Fallen Fire­fight­er Daniel Sweeney’s fam­ily and friends helped ded­ic­ate the Daniel Sweeney Me­mori­al Field at Fox Chase Re­cre­ation Cen­ter on Sunday with a second-an­nu­al soft­ball tour­na­ment also named after the neigh­bor­hood hero. Sweeney died along with Lt. Robert Neary on April 9, 2012, at the scene of a Kens­ing­ton ware­house fire. Sweeney’s col­leagues from Lad­der 10 and En­gine 7 took on a Fox Chase team from McNally’s on Rhawn in the in­aug­ur­al game. Sweeney’s par­ents, Dav­id and Mari­an, took part in the field ded­ic­a­tion along with City Coun­cil­man Bri­an O’Neill. Dav­id Sweeney also played in the soft­ball tour­na­ment. ••
