Somerton man arrested in bank robbery

A Somer­ton man who al­legedly robbed a Ben­s­alem bank on June 10 was ar­res­ted one day later in a New Jer­sey motel.

Ben­s­alem Town­ship po­lice say that Nich­olas Giorno Jr., 42, of the 1200 block of Poquess­ing Creek Drive, entered the TD Bank at Street and Mech­an­ic­sville roads shortly after noon on June 10 and handed a threat­en­ing note to a tell­er. 

He “im­plied he had a hand­gun and ‘would start shoot­ing’ but nev­er dis­played any weapon,” po­lice said. He fled the bank with an un­dis­closed amount of cash.

De­tect­ives iden­ti­fied Giorno as the prime sus­pect and ob­tained a war­rant for his ar­rest. 

They loc­ated him in an un­dis­closed Mt. Eph­raim, N.J., motel and ar­res­ted him late on June 11 with the help of Mt. Eph­raim po­lice. De­tails of the cap­ture were not dis­closed.

Giorno re­mains in cus­tody in New Jer­sey while await­ing ex­tra­di­tion to Pennsylvania to face rob­bery and re­lated charges. ••
