Cruiser crashes into repair shop

An un­at­ten­ded Phil­adelphia po­lice car ap­peared to have a mind of its own when it rolled back­ward and crashed in­to a North­east auto re­pair shop on Sunday.

Ac­cord­ing to a de­part­ment spokes­wo­man, an 8th dis­trict of­ficer had ex­ited the car on the 2300 block of Welsh Road at about 2:30 a.m. to chase an ag­grav­ated as­sault sus­pect on foot. The car ended up in re­verse and struck the Goo­dyear shop. The of­ficer was not in­jured.

An­oth­er po­lice source said that the car has been taken out of ser­vice for re­pairs. The ex­tent of the dam­age to the build­ing is un­known. Po­lice did not re­lease in­form­a­tion about the out­come of the foot pur­suit. ••
