Pennypack Park monthly cleanup nets 43 bags of trash

Thirty-six vo­lun­teers with the Friends of Pennypack Park net­ted 43 bags of trash, two bags of re­cyc­lable cans and a list of as­sor­ted, some­times strange, debris dur­ing the monthly park cleanup event on June 22.

Vo­lun­teers worked around the Phil­adelphia Fleadh Ir­ish mu­sic fest­iv­al, which was held on the same date at the Pennypack band shell near Welsh Road and Cresco Av­en­ue. They cleaned up the edges of the park along Cresco, Row­land Av­en­ue, Welsh Road and Winchester Av­en­ue as well as nearby paved and dirt paths.

Among the as­sor­ted ob­jects pulled from the woods were a rus­ted paint can with a brush, a dis­placed trash can, a steak knife, a cinder block, a bath tow­el, a real es­tate sign from Stan­wood Street, a light­er, part of a cam­era, a rake, a sec­tion of PVC pipe, part of a tiled bath­room wall (pre­sum­ably the res­ult of short dump­ing by a con­struc­tion con­tract­or), a mop handle, a base­ball cap, a boot, a san­dal, a flip-flop, a hood­ie, a tire, an oil fil­ter, an empty mo­tor oil con­tain­er, an ar­row shaft, a soft­ball, a wag­on tire, a base­ball, a pa­ci­fier, a bunch of SEPTA passes and a pair of 3D glasses. Mem­bers of Cub Scout Pack 252 were among the vo­lun­teers, in­clud­ing John Mc­Monagle and his mom, Peg; Lo­gan Kent­ner and his mom, Car­ol; and Chris­toph­er Ma­h­er and his dad, Ed, and sis­ter, McK­en­zie (a Girl Scout Troop 91043 mem­ber). Oth­ers in­cluded Tim and Jeanette Scan­lon with their grand­daugh­ters, Ash­ley and Audrey Wendt; Caitlin Nguy­en with her chil­dren, Gab­ri­el and Olivia; CLIP’s Jim Mc­Carthy and Fa­bi­an Checo with three help­ers; An­drew Puzdrak; Robert McMunn; Tom Binczewski; Rich Glaser; Debbie O’Con­nor; Florence Brod­man; Alan Kam­in­sky; Anne Cos­tello; Joanne Beck­er; Ro­land Wil­li­ams; Kar­en Kaczorek; Kev­in Sweetra; Jim Smyth; Bill Hende­r­son; Joyce Fer­raro; Jim Ry­an; and Nance Kerns. The Friends of Pennypack were sched­uled to hold an­oth­er cleanup last Sat­urday, and plan to meet again on Aug. 24 at the ball field on Holme Av­en­ue be­hind Naz­areth Hos­pit­al.
