Fishtown soc­cer try­outs 

The Fishtown Amer­ic­ans U-8 soc­cer team will have  the last night of try­outs to­night at 6:30 p.m., at Shissler Re­cre­ation Cen­ter, 1800 Blair St. All are en­cour­aged to at­tend. A man­dat­ory of two try­outs are re­quired to be con­sidered for the team. Play­ers are re­quired to bring a size four soc­cer ball filled with air, and an ample sup­ply of wa­ter. Ir­ish Night fea­tur­ing Black­thorn

On Thursday, Ju­ly 18, at 6 p.m., vis­it Camp­bell Square in Port Rich­mond for Ir­ish Night, with mu­sic by the band Black­thorn. Camp­bell Square is loc­ated at Bel­grade Street and Al­legheny Av­en­ue. 

This event is co-sponsored by the Friends of Camp­bell Square and the Peter J. Han­lon Jingle Bell Run. The Friends are ask­ing every­one to bring canned goods and/or non-per­ish­able items to the event, which will be donated to the Brides­burg Food Bank. ••

FNA hosts Penn Treaty prin­cip­al

Join the Fishtown Neigh­bors As­so­ci­ation for its Ju­ly gen­er­al mem­ber­ship meet­ing on Thursday, Ju­ly 18 at 7 p.m., at the Fishtown Re­cre­ation Cen­ter, 1202 E. Mont­gomery Ave. The FNA will be joined by Sam How­ell, prin­cip­al of Penn Treaty School, which is ex­pand­ing from a middle school to a 6-12 grade school this Septem­ber. Prin­cip­al How­ell will ex­plain a few of the ways the school is con­sid­er­ing the im­pact of these changes on the blocks sur­round­ing the school. •• 

Peg Mc­Cook Sports Tour­na­ment

The Mar­garet “Peg” Mc­Cook sports tour­na­ment will be held Ju­ly 19, 20, and 21 at Cione Play­ground (Le­high and Ara­mingo av­en­ues) and Co­hox Play­ground (Ce­dar and Cam­bria streets). Pro­ceeds be­ne­fit the Amer­ic­an Can­cer So­ci­ety and schol­ar­ships for stu­dents.

Events, with re­gis­tra­tion costs, in­clude men’s and wo­men’s soft­ball, bas­ket­ball and soc­cer ($125 each), youth soc­cer ($100), youth bas­ket­ball ($75), a 5K run on Ju­ly 20 ($30), and horse­shoes ($25 per throw­er). Brides­burg United Meth­od­ist con­cert

Brides­burg United Meth­od­ist Church, 2717 Kirk­bride St. (between Rich­mond and Thompson streets) will host a sum­mer con­cert and din­ner on Sat­urday, Ju­ly 20 from 6:30 p.m. un­til clos­ing.  

Din­ner will con­sist of spa­ghetti and meat­balls, tossed salad, bever­age and dessert, with the con­cert af­ter­wards. To pur­chase tick­ets, call Joan at 215-941-8873. ••

FNA zon­ing meet­ing

The Fishtown Neigh­bors As­so­ci­ation will dis­cuss zon­ing is­sues on Tues­day, Ju­ly 23, be­gin­ning at 6:30 p.m., with a dis­cus­sion about a second floor for an ex­ist­ing caf&ea­cute; at 2349 Bel­grade St. At 7 p.m., the group will dis­cuss 2327 Gaul St., and re­vised plans for 1027 Marl­bor­ough St. and 320 Wildey St. at 7:30. These meet­ings will take place at the Fishtown Rec Cen­ter, 1202 E Mont­gomery Ave. All res­id­ents of Fishtown are eli­gible to vote. ••

Port Rich­mond Com­munity Group to meet

On Thursday, Ju­ly 25 at 7 p.m., join the PRCG at Our Lady Help of Chris­ti­ans church hall, Al­legheny Av­en­ue and Gaul Street, for the monthly meet­ing. The group will dis­cuss and vote on the Kin­tock Group mov­ing its headquar­ters to 2121 Wheat­sheaf Lane, as well as zon­ing is­sues at 3011 Witte St. and 2036 Castor Ave. John Taylor and Marc Collazzo will be in at­tend­ance. The 25th an­nu­al Sean Daily Tour­na­ment 

The Port Rich­mond Ti­gers will spon­sor the 25th an­nu­al Sean Daily Me­mori­al Sports Tour­na­ment on Fri­day, Sat­urday and Sunday, Ju­ly 26, 27 and 28. Fea­tured events will in­clude men’s and wo­men’s soft­ball, bas­ket­ball, soc­cer (all ages) and wo­men’s vol­ley­ball.

Kon­rad Square flea mar­ket

The Friends of Kon­rad Square will host a flea mar­ket on Ju­ly 27, at Kon­rad Square, Tulip and Dauph­in streets, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Any­one in­ter­ested in rent­ing a space should call Vicky at 215-426-9654. There will also be flea mar­kets Au­gust 10 and 24. ••

St. Adal­bert Sum­mer Bazaar 

Every­one is in­vited to the St. Adal­bert par­ish bazaar on Thursday, Au­gust 1, Fri­day, Au­gust 2 and Sat­urday, Au­gust 3, be­gin­ning at 6 p.m. each night on the par­ish grounds, Al­lege­heny Av­en­ue and Thompson Street. 

Join the com­munity for fun, a flea mear­ket, Pol­ish and Ameri­an foods, dan­cing, sweets and more. On Thursday, en­joy the Pol­ish Amer­ic­an String Band. On Fri­day, the Pa­ging Samuel Band will en­ter­tain, and on Sat­urday, en­joy con­tin­ent­al Pol­ish mu­sic. The bazaar will take place rain or shine. ••

St. Anne’s ‘Shore Thing’

Join the St. Anne’s par­ish com­munity Au­gust 17, from 2 to 6 p.m., for the 11th an­nu­al Shore Thing at Light­house Pointe, 5101 Shaw­crest Ave. in Wild­wood, N.J. Sug­ar­House Sum­mer Food Truck Series 

The Sug­ar­House Casino and Phil­adelphia Mo­bile Food As­so­ci­ation have teamed up again this year for the con­tinu­ation of their Sum­mer Food Truck Series. 

There will be eight food trucks and two sweets trucks parked in the Sug­ar­House park­ing lot from 6 p.m. un­til 10 p.m. every third Thursday of the month through Septem­ber. Fairhill Square Park farm­er’s mar­ket

On Tues­days through Oc­to­ber, from 1 to 5 p.m. at Fairhill Square Park, 4th Street and Le­high Av­en­ue, en­joy a weekly farm­er’s mar­ket. 

Scoop up fresh, af­ford­able fruits and ve­get­ables and take part in dif­fer­ent free activ­it­ies each week, in­clud­ing cook­ing demon­stra­tions, chil­dren’s games, Zumba classes, face paint­ers, per­form­ances and more. Presen­ted by the Wo­men’s Com­munity Re­vital­iz­a­tion Pro­ject. ••

Help out your loc­al Girl Scouts

The Girl Scouts at Glav­in Play­ground are ex­cited to be at­tend­ing the Dis­ney World Youth Edu­ca­tion­al Series learn­ing pro­gram in June 2014. The Par­ent Com­mit­tee is co­ordin­at­ing fun­drais­ing events for the trip throughout the up­com­ing year.  

For now, the Scouts are ask­ing the com­munity to save alu­min­um cans and oth­er re­cyc­lable metals start­ing now through Sat­urday, Au­gust 17. Take your cans to Sul­li­van Re­cyc­ling, 3361 Ed­ge­mont St., and men­tion that your re­cyc­lables are for the Girl Scout fun­draiser at Glav­in Playgound. 

On Sat­urday, Au­gust 17, from 10 to 11:30 a.m., the Girl Scouts will be avail­able at Sul­li­van Re­cyc­ling to ac­cept items. A per­cent­age of all the funds raised will be ear­marked to give to the Ron­ald Mc­Don­ald House at St. Chris­toph­er’s Hos­pit­al, and to the Mus­cu­lar Dys­trophy As­so­ci­ation.
