Hundreds joined to celebrate Catholic education at Our Lady of Port Richmond with Auxiliary Bishop Michael J. Fizgerald and local dignitaries in the OLPR gym, according to the school.

Beginning at 8:15, students and friends joined in a “human prayer chain” procession and a prayer service and celebration. Catholic Schools Week is observed from Jan. 27 to Feb. 2, and focuses on high-quality Catholic education in the United States.

The theme for Catholic School Week 2013 is “Catholic Schools Raise the Standards.” Catholic schools are noted for their academic excellence and high moral standards. This year’s theme celebrates the constant attention Catholic educators pay to increasing the learning and growth of faith in all students.
