Generous readers make holiday fund a success

It’s Christ­mas week, and the Times would like to thank all of the people who have con­trib­uted to our Elean­or Smylie Com­munity Fund.

This was the 58th year that the people of the North­east have con­trib­uted money to the fund, which helps needy fam­il­ies dur­ing the Christ­mas sea­son.

As of the end of last week, the Times had mailed more than $9,000 in gift cards to in­di­vidu­als and or­gan­iz­a­tions that help the less for­tu­nate dur­ing the hol­i­days.

The gift cards, to loc­al su­per­mar­kets and de­part­ment stores, are meant to help people pre­pare a hol­i­day din­ner and pur­chase Christ­mas presents.

The Times prints the name and con­tri­bu­tion of each per­son or group in the pa­per, or we hon­or re­quests for an­onym­ity.
