Generous readers make holiday fund a success

It’s Christmas week, and the Times would like to thank all of the people who have contributed to our Eleanor Smylie Community Fund.

This was the 58th year that the people of the Northeast have contributed money to the fund, which helps needy families during the Christmas season.

As of the end of last week, the Times had mailed more than $9,000 in gift cards to individuals and organizations that help the less fortunate during the holidays.

The gift cards, to local supermarkets and department stores, are meant to help people prepare a holiday dinner and purchase Christmas presents.

The Times prints the name and contribution of each person or group in the paper, or we honor requests for anonymity.
