Walk­ing Fish Theatre’s ‘Amer­ic­an Fairy Tales’

B. Someday Pro­duc­tions will present a fam­ily-friendly, hol­i­day per­form­ance of ‘Amer­ic­an Fairy Tales’ through Dec. 31 at Walk­ing Fish Theatre, 2509 Frank­ford Ave. The cost is $7 for chil­dren (un­der 15) and $12 for adults. Rock to the Fu­ture an­nu­al hol­i­day show­case

Rock to the Fu­ture will hold a con­cert show­case on Dec. 20 on the second floor of St. Mi­chael’s Church, 2139 E. Cum­ber­land St. Doors open at 5 p.m., and the show will be­gin promptly at 6 p.m. The event is free (dona­tions ac­cep­ted) and in­cludes a potluck meal fol­low­ing the per­form­ance. At­tendees are en­cour­aged to bring something to share.

Christ­mas show and lunch

Brides­burg Re­cre­ation Cen­ter, 2635 Rich­mond St., will host a free lunch Dec. 21 at noon for chil­dren 2 to 10 years old, $1 for those over 10. The show will fol­low, be­gin­ning at 12:45 p.m. Santa will be present. For more in­form­a­tion, call 215-685-1247.

Brides­burg Rec. Christ­mas drive

Through the Aid for Friends Christ­mas 2013 drive, items for seni­or shut-ins are cur­rently be­ing col­lec­ted at the Brides­burg Re­cre­ation Cen­ter, 4601 Rich­mond St. Sug­ges­ted items in­clude toi­letries, clothes, house­hold items, and cash. Con­tact Miss Jack­ie at 215-685-1247.

Hol­i­day gift bas­ket raffle for seni­ors at St. Anne’s

St. Anne’s Seni­or Cen­ter, 2607 E. Cum­ber­land St., is spon­sor­ing a hol­i­day gift bas­ket raffle fea­tur­ing gift cer­ti­fic­ates and mer­chand­ise from more than a dozen loc­al shops and res­taur­ants. 

The pub­lic is in­vited to stop by the cen­ter to pur­chase raffle tick­ets between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  The draw­ing will be at noon on Fri­day, Dec. 20, but you do not have to be present to win. For more in­form­a­tion, call St. Anne’s Seni­or Cen­ter at 215-426-9799. 

St. Peter Christ­mas sched­ule

The Na­tion­al Shrine of Saint John Neu­mann at St. Peter the Apostle Ro­man Cath­ol­ic Church, 1019 N. 5th St., will have the fol­low­ing Christ­mas liturgy sched­ule: 

On Christ­mas Eve, the Arch­dioces­an Boy’s Choir will per­form at 5:30 p.m. in the Up­per Church. At 10 p.m., the choir and or­ches­tra will per­form in the Up­per Church. On Christ­mas Day, litur­gies will be held at 9:30 a.m. in the Up­per Church, 11 a.m., in Span­ish, in the Up­per Church, and 12:30 p.m. in the Up­per Church.

NK­CDC tree re­cyc­ling 

The City of Phil­adelphia does not pick up hol­i­day trees left at the curb. Save your tree from end­ing up in a land­fill on Sat­urday, Jan.4, from 9:30 a.m. un­til noon, at Palmer and Blair streets. 

Join Sus­tain­able 19125 & 19134 (an ini­ti­at­ive of NK­CDC), your loc­al civic as­so­ci­ations (Olde Rich­mond Civic As­so­ci­ation, Fishtown Neigh­bors As­so­ci­ation, and East Kens­ing­ton Neigh­bors As­so­ci­ation), and Palmer Dog­gie De­pot to re­cycle trees in­to mulch for the dog park.

Cione Rec. Cen­ter pro­grams

LSH classes in Fishtown

Luther­an Set­tle­ment House, 1340 Frank­ford Ave., has an­nounced its weekly class sched­ule: Act­ive Plus (dan­cer­cise) with Rita, Mondays, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., $3. Thai Chi with Milton Mc­Griff, Wed­nes­days, 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., $3. Line dan­cing with Arnie, Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., $3. 

LSH will also host will host a free weekly “en­hanced fit­ness” (chair aer­obics) pro­gram on Tues­days and Fri­days with Ivy, from 9 to 10 a.m. For more in­form­a­tion, call LSH at  215-426-8610. 

Port Rich­mond Lep­re­chauns sign ups

Bas­ket­ball sign-ups are tak­ing place now. The club­house will be open Tues­days, Wed­nes­days and Thursdays, from 6 to 8 p.m. Ages are 6-18, both boys and girls. Activ­it­ies at Brides­burg Rec.

Zumba classes are be­ing held Mondays and Thursdays from 7 to 8 p.m. Zumba Ton­ing is on Wed­nes­days. Cost: $4 per class. Scrap book­ing class is Wed­nes­days from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Cost: $5 per class. Ladies Bowl­ing League meets Tues­days at Erie Lanes at 9 a.m. Cost: $10. For more in­form­a­tion, call 215-685-1247.

Preschool is offered Thursdays and Fri­days from noon to 2:40 p.m. There are two spots left in the af­ter­noon class. Child must be 3 as of Sept. 1, and must be potty trained. Tod­dler Time is Mondays and Thursdays, noon to 2 p.m. Three spots are avail­able in the af­ter­noon class. Child must be 2 as of Sept. 1.

Tax help dead­line Jan. 15 

The City has cre­ated PHL Tax LOOP (Long­time Own­er Oc­cu­pants Pro­gram) to provide tax re­lief to ease the bur­den for these homeown­ers. If you are ap­proved, your tax bill will be re­duced for 10 years. 

To get these sav­ings, the city must re­ceive your ap­plic­a­tion by Jan. 15, 2014, and you have to meet the re­quire­ments—call 215-686-9200 with ques­tions and vis­it www.phila.gov/loop for more info. If you are not eli­gible for LOOP, you may be eli­gible for oth­er tax re­lief pro­grams. 

Craft classes in Kens­ing­ton

Arts and crafts classes for adults are be­ing offered in the Stu­dio at Beacon on Wed­nes­day even­ings from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Open stu­dio format means you may come any­time between 6:30 and 8:30 to par­ti­cip­ate.

Moth­er of Di­vine Grace Bible study and group ses­sions

On Wed. even­ings, Jan. 8 to March 12 from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Moth­er of Di­vine Grace Par­ish will be con­duct­ing a new Bible study. The theme will be “Wo­men of the New Test­a­ment.” In these stud­ies, it is not how much you know, but what you  don’t know and will learn. 

Pre-re­gis­tra­tion is not re­quired, but call­ing the church will help them or­der the cor­rect amount of ma­ter­i­als. The cost of this study is $12. Also, if you’re a Cath­ol­ic who has been away from the church for a while, con­sider par­ti­cip­at­ing in M.D.G.’s “Cath­ol­ics Re­turn­ing Home” pro­gram. It is a six-week ses­sion con­sist­ing of six small group ses­sions.
