A pair of unidentified thieves teamed up to distract a clerk and steal cartons of cigarettes from a Castor Gardens convenience store late last month, according to Philadelphia police, who have released video of the crime.
The theft occurred on July 25 at 5:04 a.m. at the Wawa, 6935 Castor Ave. One of the crooks approached the cashier with a drink and paid for it. With the cashier distracted, the second crook reached over the counter and grabbed multiple cartons of cigarettes. Police did not specify how many cartons the thief stole.
When the clerk discovered the theft in progress, both accomplices fled the store on foot. They were last seen heading east on Tyson Avenue toward Rutland Street.
One thief was described as black, 20 to 30 years old, wearing blue pants, a blue shirt and a dark “doo rag.” The other crook was described as black, 30 to 40 years old, wearing jeans, a yellow shirt and a baseball cap.
