Popular Broadway Sings concert returns

The folks at the Congregations of Ner Zedek are preparing to again welcome the Broadway Sings concert production.

The concert is set for 1:30 p.m. on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 2, at Ner Zedek, at 7520 Bustleton Ave. in Rhawnhurst.

The performers, who are current and former stars of Broadway hit shows, will be at the synagogue for the eighth time.

“It’s amazing. They’re all Broadway stars,” said Concert Committee chairman Jack Belitsky. “It’s like getting six Broadway shows in one. They stay for encore after encore after encore.”

Publicity chairman Don Agriss explained that committee members meet year round, and that ticket sales begin in January.

Committee members see many of the same faces at the concert each Labor Day. Synagogue members are big supporters of the concert.

“People have enjoyed it for so many years,” he said.

At the same time, Belitsky and Agriss said everyone is welcome. A year ago, the concert attracted a crowd of 550.

“Many people outside the synagogue come to attend,” Agriss said.

A flier promoting the concert declares that Broadway Sings is “back by popular demand.”

Firstrust Bank returns as the concert’s prime sponsor. There will be a post-concert reception for patrons and benefactors. Proceeds benefit Ner Zedek.

The songs will come from popular shows such as Cats, The Phantom of the Opera, Mamma Mia!, Les Miserables and Wicked.

“It’s always a great show,” Belitsky said. “It’s a great event for people. They love the music. It’s an afternoon out. They can go out to dinner, and it’s not dark when they get home.”

Tickets cost $36 apiece. The cost is $100 for two tickets and a post-concert reception or $200 for four tickets and the reception. Group pricing is available. ••
