School sup­plies needed

School sup­plies are needed for an up­com­ing ser­vice pro­ject at the Rhawn­hurst Turn­ing Point cen­ter.

The sup­plies will be or­gan­ized, di­vided and as­sembled in­to “Back to School Packs” that will be donated to the Feast of Justice, a loc­al food bank. Items needed in­clude back­packs, pen­cil cases, rulers, pen­cils and note­books. Dona­tions can be dropped off at 7812 Castor Ave. from 2:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 8, 13 and 15.

Mean­while, an End of Sum­mer Stu­dent Show­case will be held at the Rhawn­hurst Turn­ing Point on Aug. 24 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The youth of Turn­ing Point will dis­play their artist­ic tal­ents through drama per­form­ances, cre­at­ive writ­ing pieces and an art auc­tion. ••

SPIN selling raffle tick­ets

Spe­cial People In North­east will hold its Golden Tick­et raffle to raise money and aware­ness for in­fants, chil­dren and adults with de­vel­op­ment­al, in­tel­lec­tu­al and aut­ism spec­trum dis­orders. 

Only 1,000 tick­ets will be sold at $100 each. Tick­et shares are also avail­able for $10 each. First prize is $40,000, second prize is $5,000 and third prize is $2,500. Fun for kids at the In­sect­ari­um

In­sect­ari­um, 8046 Frank­ford Ave., will show kids how to make their own lady bug bean bag toys from 1 to 2 p.m. on Sat­urday, Aug. 10.

Be­ne­fit for troops at Katie O’Don­nell’s

The Cor­vette Club at Delaware Val­ley is host­ing a “Vettes” for Vets and “Air­borne” Day at Katie O’Don­nell’s, loc­ated at 4501 Wood­haven Road, on Sat­urday, Aug. 17, from noon to 4 p.m.

The pur­pose of the event is to col­lect per­son­al items such as razor blades, toi­letries, phone cards, writ­ing ma­ter­i­als and more for troops over­seas. Hav­ing these per­son­al items will lift the spir­its of the troops. There will be no entry fee. More than 100 Cor­vettes will be on dis­play. Loc­al mil­it­ary chapters will have re­cruit­ing tables. Chil­dren are wel­come. There will also be a Moon­bounce.

Activ­it­ies at Holmes­burg Lib­rary

The Holmes­burg Lib­rary is hold­ing sev­er­al up­com­ing activ­it­ies sponsored by Friends of Holmes­burg Lib­rary. The sum­mer read­ing pro­gram will run through Fri­day. Chil­dren re­ceive stick­ers and prizes for read­ing.

On Monday, Aug. 12, a fam­ily night is be­ing held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Activ­it­ies will in­clude face paint­ing, story time and a ma­gic show.

A preschool story time is sched­uled for Tues­day, Aug. 13, at 10:30 a.m.

Tick­ets avail­able for Trenton Thun­der game

On Wed­nes­day, Aug. 28, it will be Great­er North­east Phil­adelphia Cham­ber of Com­merce Night at the Trenton Thun­der minor league base­ball game.

First pitch is 7:05 p.m.

The game will fea­ture the New Bri­tain Rock Cats vs. the Thun­der. Tick­ets are $12 and can be pur­chased by call­ing the Cham­ber of­fice at 215-332-3400. ••

Churchville nature pro­grams

The Bucks County De­part­ment of Parks and Re­cre­ation and the Friends of Churchville Nature Cen­ter will run week eight of the Chil­dren’s Nature Camp, from Aug. 12 to Aug. 16.

Each week has a spe­cif­ic theme, such as week sev­en’s “Let’s Go Green.”

The camp is geared to chil­dren from ages 4 to 9, and full day pro­grams cost $191 for non-mem­bers and $175 for mem­bers. Half-day pro­grams cost $80 and $72 for non-mem­bers and mem­bers, re­spect­ively.

An early morn­ing bird walk will be held on Aug. 17 from 7 to 9 a.m. The pro­gram is free to the gen­er­al pub­lic, and par­ti­cipants are en­cour­aged to bring bin­ocu­lars and bird iden­ti­fic­a­tion field guides.

A pub­lic tour of the Lenape Vil­lage will be held on Aug. 18. Tours be­gin at 1 p.m. and go on un­til 4 p.m., with a $5 fee. Re­ser­va­tions are re­ques­ted. The theme is “Cord­age.” The Nature Cen­ter is loc­ated at 501 Churchville Lane in Churchville, Bucks County.

Girl Scouts go­ing roller skat­ing

The Girl Scouts are hold­ing a skat­ing party at Rolling Thun­der Skat­ing Cen­ter, loc­ated at 7017 Roosevelt Blvd., on Fri­day, Aug. 9, from 6 to 9 p.m.

Ad­mis­sion is $5. Skate rent­al is $3.50. There will be raffles and prizes. Fam­ily and friends are wel­come. Any­one who brings 10 or more people will re­ceive free ad­mis­sion for one guest in the party.
