School supplies needed
School supplies are needed for an upcoming service project at the Rhawnhurst Turning Point center.
The supplies will be organized, divided and assembled into “Back to School Packs” that will be donated to the Feast of Justice, a local food bank. Items needed include backpacks, pencil cases, rulers, pencils and notebooks. Donations can be dropped off at 7812 Castor Ave. from 2:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 8, 13 and 15.
Meanwhile, an End of Summer Student Showcase will be held at the Rhawnhurst Turning Point on Aug. 24 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The youth of Turning Point will display their artistic talents through drama performances, creative writing pieces and an art auction. ••
SPIN selling raffle tickets
Special People In Northeast will hold its Golden Ticket raffle to raise money and awareness for infants, children and adults with developmental, intellectual and autism spectrum disorders.
Only 1,000 tickets will be sold at $100 each. Ticket shares are also available for $10 each. First prize is $40,000, second prize is $5,000 and third prize is $2,500. Fun for kids at the Insectarium

Benefit for troops at Katie O’Donnell’s
The Corvette Club at Delaware Valley is hosting a “Vettes” for Vets and “Airborne” Day at Katie O’Donnell’s, located at 4501 Woodhaven Road, on Saturday, Aug. 17, from noon to 4 p.m.
The purpose of the event is to collect personal items such as razor blades, toiletries, phone cards, writing materials and more for troops overseas. Having these personal items will lift the spirits of the troops. There will be no entry fee. More than 100 Corvettes will be on display. Local military chapters will have recruiting tables. Children are welcome. There will also be a Moonbounce.

Activities at Holmesburg Library
The Holmesburg Library is holding several upcoming activities sponsored by Friends of Holmesburg Library. The summer reading program will run through Friday. Children receive stickers and prizes for reading.
On Monday, Aug. 12, a family night is being held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Activities will include face painting, story time and a magic show.
A preschool story time is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 13, at 10:30 a.m.

Orleans Tech welcomes visitors
Orleans Technical Institute, located at 2770 Red Lion Road, holds Senior Saturdays at 10 a.m. through Aug. 31. Tickets available for Trenton Thunder game
On Wednesday, Aug. 28, it will be Greater Northeast Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce Night at the Trenton Thunder minor league baseball game.
First pitch is 7:05 p.m.

Churchville nature programs
The Bucks County Department of Parks and Recreation and the Friends of Churchville Nature Center will run week eight of the Children’s Nature Camp, from Aug. 12 to Aug. 16.
Each week has a specific theme, such as week seven’s “Let’s Go Green.”
The camp is geared to children from ages 4 to 9, and full day programs cost $191 for non-members and $175 for members. Half-day programs cost $80 and $72 for non-members and members, respectively.
An early morning bird walk will be held on Aug. 17 from 7 to 9 a.m. The program is free to the general public, and participants are encouraged to bring binoculars and bird identification field guides.
A public tour of the Lenape Village will be held on Aug. 18. Tours begin at 1 p.m. and go on until 4 p.m., with a $5 fee. Reservations are requested. The theme is “Cordage.” The Nature Center is located at 501 Churchville Lane in Churchville, Bucks County.

Girl Scouts going roller skating
The Girl Scouts are holding a skating party at Rolling Thunder Skating Center, located at 7017 Roosevelt Blvd., on Friday, Aug. 9, from 6 to 9 p.m.
Admission is $5. Skate rental is $3.50. There will be raffles and prizes. Family and friends are welcome. Anyone who brings 10 or more people will receive free admission for one guest in the party.
