The public is invited to attend an upcoming plaque dedication in memory of police officer Brian Lorenzo.
The ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 4, at 11 a.m. at the Philadelphia Water Department property at 5200 Pennypack St., where the police highway patrol drill team practices.
Lorenzo, 48, of Somerton, was a member of highway patrol. He was killed in July 2012 as he was riding his motorcycle home following a shift.
The officer was riding on northbound I-95, near Cottman Avenue, when he was hit by a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction. The driver was allegedly drunk. He is in jail facing an October trial for third-degree murder and other charges.
Next month’s plaque dedication is part of a program initiated by Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5 and attorney James J. Binns. The union and the lawyer honor officers who’ve died in the line of duty. ••
