Fishtown Rec. has spots for tots

The Fishtown Re­cre­ation Cen­ter will be re­gis­ter­ing chil­dren for its preschool pro­gram to­night, Wed­nes­day, Aug. 21, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Open­ings are avail­able for the four-year-olds class. Chil­dren should be four by Sept. 1. Classes are held on Tues., Wed., and Thurs., from 8:30 to 11:00 a.m. 

All chil­dren must be able to at­tend to their own bath­room needs. To re­gister, please bring your child’s birth cer­ti­fic­ate, im­mun­iz­a­tion re­cord and a $20 non-re­fund­able re­gis­tra­tion fee. Loc­a­tion: Fishtown Re­cre­ation Cen­ter, 1202 E. Frank Glav­in Play­ground no­tices

Frank Glav­in Play­ground, 2600 West­mo­re­land St., is of­fer­ing in­struc­tion to chil­dren ages 3 and up in tap, jazz and bal­let. 

A teach­er is needed to in­struct the stu­dents, or­der cos­tumes and plan the year-end dance re­cit­al.

Heitz­man Re­cre­ation Cen­ter fall ro­grams

The cen­ter, at 3661 Am­ber St., is hold­ing re­gis­tra­tion for a Monday through Fri­day after school pro­gram, in-house soc­cer for boys and girls, a drama pro­gram for boys and girls, and a men’s bas­ket­ball league. Kon­rad Square flea mar­ket

The Friends of Kon­rad Square will host a flea mar­ket on Aug. 24, at Kon­rad Square, Tulip and Dauph­in streets, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Brides­burg Rec. flea mar­ket

Cione fall pro­grams 

Cione Play­ground, at Le­high and Ara­mingo av­en­ues, will host sev­er­al pro­grams: after school pro­gram, ages 5 to 12, Monday through Fri­day; tum­bling and gym­nastics, ages 4 and up, Monday through  Wed­nes­days; dance, ages 3 to 13, Thursday through Sat­urday.

Com­munity mar­ket­place at Ben­son Park 

The South Kens­ing­ton Neig­hor­hood Ad­vis­ory Com­mit­tee, along with the Friends of Ben­son park, will host a com­munity mar­ket­place on Sat­urday, Sept. 14, from noon to 4 p.m., at the park, 1445 N. Lawrence St. Rain date will be Sept. 15.

Frank Glav­in Girl Scouts car wash

The Girl Scout Troops at Frank Glav­ing Play­ground, 2600 West­mo­re­land St., will host a car wash on Sat­urday, Sept. 7, from 10 a.m. to noon. Stop by and help the girls raise money to at­tend a youth edu­ca­tion pro­gram in Dis­ney World next year. 

Re­fresh­ments will be avail­able. Por­tions of all the group’s fun­drais­ing activ­it­ies will also be­ne­fit the Mus­cu­lar Dys­trophy As­so­ci­ation, the Ron­ald Mc­Don­ald House at St. Chris­toph­er Hos­pit­al, and the Glav­in Play­ground equip­ment up­grade fund. ••

Pro­duce vouch­ers for seni­ors

Low-in­come Phil­adelphia seni­ors who haven’t re­ceived free pro­duce vouch­ers are en­cour­aged to take ad­vant­age of the lim­ited sup­plies of vouch­ers. They are be­ing dis­trib­uted at Phi­adelphia Cor­por­a­tion for Aging, 642 N. Broad St., on week­days from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. 

Seni­ors should call the PCA Helpline at 215-765-9040 to veri­fy their eli­gib­il­ity and avail­ab­il­ity of vouch­ers. Eli­gible Phil­adelphia seni­ors can re­ceive $20 worth of vouch­ers that can be used to pur­chase fresh Pennsylvania-grown pro­duce sold at cer­ti­fied Farm­ers’ Mar­kets in Phil­adelphia. ••

Hous­ing and fin­an­cial lit­er­acy work­shop

Port Rich­mond Com­munity Group to meet

PRCG will meet on Thursday, Aug. 29, at 7 p.m., at Our Lady Help of Chris­ti­ans’ church hall base­ment, Al­legheny Av­en­ue at Gaul Street.

Fishtown Ac­tion’s monthly mem­ber­ship meet­ing will take place Monday, Sept. 9 at 7 p.m., at Holy Name of Je­sus Church Hall. Get an up­date from PennDOT on the I-95 pro­ject and how the com­munity will be af­fected. ••

Kens­ing­ton Com­munity Food Co-op

Kens­ing­ton Com­munity Food Co-op spon­sors a mar­ket­place event, every second and fourth Tues­day of the month, from 6 to 8 p.m. on the second floor of Circle of Hope, 2009 Frank­ford Ave.  

While the co-op con­tin­ues to move for­ward with plans to open a mem­ber-owned gro­cery store in Kens­ing­ton, in the mean­time, mem­bers and non-mem­bers alike can pur­chase sea­son­al pro­duce and bulk dry goods such as beans, grains and gran­ola at the bi-monthly mar­ket­place.
