Elderly man crashes into shopping center

A Pennsylvania De­part­ment of Rev­en­ue of­fice in the North­east re­ceived an un­ex­pec­ted vis­it­or on Fri­day af­ter­noon as a Mer­cedes-Benz sedan crashed through the strip­mall store­front.

It happened at about 5:15 p.m. in the Academy Plaza shop­ping cen­ter. Phil­adelphia po­lice say that an 82-year-old man was be­hind the wheel when his vehicle ca­reened over a curb and crashed in­to the tax of­fice at 3240 Red Li­on Road. The driver was taken to Aria Health-Tor­res­dale for eval­u­ation, said po­lice, who did not re­lease his name or in­form­a­tion about his in­jur­ies.

No pas­sen­ger or ped­es­tri­an in­jur­ies were re­por­ted, al­though the car and the store­front sus­tained mod­er­ate to heavy dam­age.

The driver stated to po­lice that he “passed out for a second” and “came to” while hit­ting the curb and strik­ing the build­ing, po­lice said. ••
