Police search for boy missing in Pennypack Creek

Phil­adelphia fire­fight­ers are search­ing for a 15-year-old boy who was swept away in the wa­ters of the Pennypack Creek Tues­day night.

Earli­er re­ports lis­ted the boy’s age as 16. 

Phil­adelphia Po­lice De­part­ment Pub­lic Af­fairs Of­ficer Jill Rus­sell told the North­east Times Wed­nes­day morn­ing that po­lice re­sumed the search for the boy, who is from the North­east, Wed­nes­day morn­ing at 6 a.m. Rus­sell said she could not con­firm the boy’s name, but CBS Philly lis­ted him this morn­ing as Se­basti­an Shan­non, of Ox­ford Circle.

Po­lice called off their Tues­day night search due to dark­ness. Around 7 p.m., res­cue crews were still search­ing around the sec­tion of the creek at Frank­ford Av­en­ue and Ash­burn­er Street in Holmes­burg, off the Pennypack Trail.

Po­lice say the teen was play­ing with friends when he slipped and fell in­to the creek. The Pennypack Creek was swollen with wa­ter after heavy rain­fall Tues­day morn­ing.

It was re­por­ted that res­cuers re­spon­ded to the area off of the Pennypack Trail in Holmes­burg at ap­prox­im­ately 5:30 p.m. Tues­day.
