Fishtown Beer Run­ners Fun­draiser for Hack­ett Ele­ment­ary 

The Fishtown Beer Run­ners are hold­ing a fun­draiser for Hack­ett Ele­ment­ary School at Ce­dar Point Bar and Kit­chen on Thursday, Aug. 15, from 7 to 9 p.m. Ce­dar Point will donate $1 for every beer sold dur­ing the event to the Friends of Hack­ett par­ents’ group. Pro­ceeds will go to­wards school sup­plies for the school. Loc­a­tion: Ce­dar Point Bar and Kit­chen, 2370 E. Nor­ris St. ••

Fishtown Rec. has spots for tots

The Fishtown Re­cre­ation Cen­ter will be re­gis­ter­ing chil­dren for its preschool pro­gram on Wed­nes­day, Aug.21, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Open­ings are avail­able for the four-year-olds class. Chil­dren should be four by Sept. 1. Classes are held on Tues., Wed., and Thurs., from 8:30 to 11:00 a.m. 

All chil­dren must be able to at­tend to their own bath­room needs. Frank Glav­in Play­ground no­tices

Frank Glav­in Play­ground, 2600 West­mo­re­land St., is of­fer­ing in­struc­tion to chil­dren ages 3 and up in tap, jazz and bal­let. A teach­er is needed to in­struct the stu­dents, or­der cos­tumes and plan the year-end dance re­cit­al.

Heitz­man Rec. Cen­ter bas­ket­ball league 

Heitz­man Rec., 2136 Castor Ave., will be hold­ing a men’s bas­ket­ball league on Sat­urday af­ter­noons from Septem­ber through Decem­ber. All games will be played between noon and 5 p.m. at the Heitz­man Re­cre­ation Cen­ter. The cost is $275 per team plus an $80 re­fund­able for­feit fee. The ref­er­ee fee is $40 per game. Each team may have no more then 10 play­ers.

Fee must be paid with a check or money or­der made out to Heitz­man Ad­vis­ory Coun­cil. Sea­son starts on Sat­urday, Sept. 14. More in­form­a­tion or ques­tions should be dir­ec­ted to the League Com­mis­sion­er, Steve Schmidt, at 215-685-1244. ••

Liberti church Teen Arts Camp

Teen­agers from the River Wards have cre­ated works of art throughout the month of Ju­ly at liberti church east’s arts camp, and will ex­hib­it their work in the show­case, “Char­ac­ter Ef­fect,” which will be on dis­play through Au­gust in the Artspace Liberti gal­lery space, at 2424 E. York St. Join liberti church at the gal­lery be­fore and after Sunday ser­vices through Au­gust, from 10 a.m. to noon. ••

Kon­rad Square flea mar­ket

The Friends of Kon­rad Square will host a flea mar­ket on Aug. 24, at Kon­rad Square, Tulip and Dauph­in streets, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Any­one in­ter­ested in rent­ing a space should call Vicky at 215-426-9654. ••

LSH garden party

Luther­an Set­tle­ment House’s Com­munity Edu­ca­tion Pro­gram’s two year an­niversary party will be held on Thursday, Aug.15, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., in the LSH garden and seni­or cen­ter.

Fam­ily Theatre Series at Penn Treaty Park

B. Someday Pro­duc­tions, which calls The Walk­ing Fish Theatre home, is proud to an­nounce an out­door per­form­ance of The Fam­ily Theatre Series on Thursday, Aug. 15, at 6 p.m., at Penn Treaty Park.

Sug­ar­House Sum­mer Food Truck Series 

The Sug­ar­House Casino and Phil­adelphia Mo­bile Food As­so­ci­ation have teamed up again this year for the con­tinu­ation of their Sum­mer Food Truck Series. 

There will be eight food trucks and two sweets trucks parked in the Sug­ar­House park­ing lot from 6 p.m. un­til 10 p.m. every third Thursday of the month through Septem­ber. Dance show­case and health fair in Brides­burg

Join Health Part­ners for its fourth an­nu­al “Crazy Praise Dance Show­case” and health fair on Aug. 17. The Crazy Praise Dance Show­case will fea­ture Grammy Award-win­ning artists Mary Mary, some of Phil­adelphia’s most tal­en­ted praise dan­cers and an ex­cit­ing an­nounce­ment from Health Part­ners.  

The Health Fair will in­clude com­pli­ment­ary health screen­ings and in­form­a­tion on Health Part­ners’ Chil­dren’s Health In­sur­ance Pro­gram (CHIP). Plus, there will be fam­ily fun activ­it­ies like face paint­ing, games, a chil­dren’s fun zone, giveaways and a spe­cial ap­pear­ance by the Health Part­ners mas­cot, Ms. Roo the Kangaroo. 

The health fair will take place from 2 to 4 p.m., doors open for the show­case at 5 p.m. and the show­case be­gins at 6 p.m. The event will take place at The Baptist Wor­ship Cen­ter, 4790 James St.  ••

Help out loc­al Girl Scouts

The Girl Scouts at Glav­in Play­ground are ask­ing the com­munity to save alu­min­um cans and oth­er re­cyc­lable metals start­ing now through Sat­urday, Au­gust 17. Take your cans to Sul­li­van Re­cyc­ling, 3361 Ed­ge­mont St., and men­tion that your re­cyc­lables are for the Girl Scout fun­draiser at Glav­in Playgound. 

On Sat­urday, Au­gust 17, from 10 to 11:30 a.m., the Girl Scouts will be avail­able at Sul­li­van Re­cyc­ling to ac­cept items. A per­cent­age of all the funds raised will be ear­marked to give to the Ron­ald Mc­Don­ald House at St. Chris­toph­er’s Hos­pit­al, and to the Mus­cu­lar Dys­trophy As­so­ci­ation.

To re­quest alu­min­um and met­al pick-up at stores, bars, etc., leave a mes­sage at 215-739-6456. The Girl Scouts will also be selling $1 candy bars door-to-door every Tues­day even­ing in Au­gust between 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. ••
