Only Philadelphian to receive Medal of Honor is commemorated in Bridesburg

A me­mori­al and plaque ded­ic­a­tion ce­re­mony hon­or­ing Cor­por­al Mi­chael J. Cres­cenz was held on Sat­urday, March 30.

Cpl. Cres­cenz, Car­din­al Dougherty class of 1966, was awar­ded the Medal of Hon­or posthum­ously in 1970, and holds the dis­tin­guished hon­or as the only res­id­ent of Phil­adelphia to re­ceive this award dur­ing the en­tire Vi­et­nam War peri­od.

The Phil­adelphia Po­lice and Fire Pipes and Drums Band played “Amaz­ing Grace” as Treas­urer Len Fran­cis and Board of Gov­ernors mem­ber Tom Roberts un­veiled the plaque on the out­side wall of the Phil­adelphia Vet­er­an Me­mori­al So­ci­ety build­ing, 4720 Mer­cer St., dur­ing the ce­re­mony on Sat­urday.
