St. Laurentius seeks donations for USO project
In a USO-sponsored event, the students of St. Laurentius School will be assembling care packages and sending them to troops to let them know that even the youngest American citizens are remembering them and their sacrifices for our country.
The students have set a goal of sending 100 packages to our military. The students are seeking monetary donations to help with shipping costs. Donations will be accepted through April 24 at the Saint Laurentius Rectory, 1608 E. Berks St. at Memphis Street, or at the school. ••
T-Ball with the Tigers
Sign-ups now open for girls and boys ages 4 to 6 for T-ball with the Port Richmond Tigers. The season is about to start. Sign up at the Tigers Clubhouse, Chatham and Ann streets, Monday through Friday 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., or call Tom Mack for more information at 215-275-8838. ••
FNA to meet
Join the Fishtown Neighbors Association on Thurs., April 18 at 7 p.m. for a “local food round-up” at the Fishtown Rec Center, 1202 E. Montgomery Ave. Lena Helen, President of the Kensington Community Food Co-op, will address the group.
The NKCDC will also present on their “farm to families” program. General Membership Meetings are held on the third Thursday of every month at the Rec Center. ••
Hancock basketball clinic
Hancock Recreation Center, in coordination with Towey, Nelson and the 8th and Diamond Recreation Center will be hosting a intramural basketball league. You must attend the basketball clinic that started this Tuesday.
Hancock will be selecting players to play in the league from the kids who join the clinic. Ages 12 - 14 starts at 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and 15 - 18 starts at 6:30 on the same days. For more information Please contact: Hancock Rec., 215-685-9886; Towey Rec., 215-685-9892. ••
Palmer Cemetery clean up
Palmer Cemetery in Fishtown, at Palmer and Memphis streets, will hold its first cleanup of the year on April 20 between 8:30 a.m. and noon. Basketball clinics by Jen McCook
Big 5 Basketball hall of famer and former Temple women’s basketball star, Jen McCook, is going to be running individual, group and team clinics. Individual clinics are being held weekdays after school at Samuel Rec. Center, 3539 Gaul St. If interested please contact to set up day and time.
Group clinics are available for grades 3-8 and high school beginning April 22, and will take place at Samuel as well as Cohox, 2901 Cedar St. For specifics and times, contact Jen McCook at firstname.lastname@example.org or 267-325-1416.
The cost for group clinics is $30 and pre-registration is recommended. Jen is only taking the first 40 players registered. Forms can be picked up at Cohox, Samuel, and A&W playground, or can be mailed to you. ••
Story Slam at Liberti East
The third annual free Story Slam will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 26, at Liberti Church East, 2424 York St. Come enjoy a night of storytelling and vote on your favorite or tell your own story to join the competition.
