Man charged with March home invasion in Oxford Circle

One of several men who invaded an Oxford Circle home, pistol-whipped a resident and stole $30,000 in March was arrested last week, police said.

Surveillance camera footage taken in the rear of the home led authorities to Rashion Michaels, 21, of the 6100 block of Callowhill St. in West Philadelphia, on Aug. 29, police said.

According to police, Michaels was one in a pack of gun-toting robbers who attacked a 42-year-old businessman and his 41-year-old wife as they arrived in the rear of their home on the 1400 block of McKinley St. at 7 p.m. on March 18.

The couple heard, “Don’t move or I’ll shoot you,” before six or seven men appeared and forced them into their rowhome at gunpoint. One of the men repeatedly pistol-whipped the husband. In addition to taking $30,000 in cash, the men made off with jewelry and a gun. The husband was cut but was not hospitalized. The wife was uninjured.

All the men were black and most wore black hoodies. One man wore a white hoodie and covered his face with a rag, police said. The victims were described as Asian business owners.

Unable to post 10 percent of bail set at $500,000, Michaels remains in custody at the Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility on State Road. A hearing is set for Sept. 13 in Room 703 in the Criminal Justice Center, 13th and Filbert streets.

He is charged aggravated assault, robbery, conspiracy, theft, receiving stolen property and simple assault. ••
