Improvements headed to Lawncrest Rec Center

The Lawn­crest Com­munity As­so­ci­ation last week wel­comed of­fi­cials from the 2nd Po­lice Dis­trict and Ta­cony Academy Charter High School to its monthly meet­ing.

Also in at­tend­ance was Re­pub­lic­an con­gres­sion­al can­did­ate Joe Rooney, who fa­vors a bal­anced budget amend­ment and cuts in the salar­ies and of­fice budgets of mem­bers of Con­gress. 

In neigh­bor­hood news, the Phil­lyR­ising Col­lab­or­at­ive and the Lawn­crest Re­cre­ation Cen­ter ad­vis­ory coun­cil are team­ing to bring im­prove­ments to the rec cen­ter.

Vo­lun­teers from the com­munity and La Salle Uni­versity will paint, clean and plant at the cen­ter, at Rising Sun Av­en­ue and Comly Street, this Sat­urday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. To sign up, call re­cre­ation lead­er Bri­an An­drews at 215-685-0597.

That same day, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the re­cre­ation cen­ter, res­id­ents can sign up to join Phil­adelphia Re­cyc­ling Re­wards and re­ceive a re­cyc­ling bin.

The Friends of Lawn­crest Lib­rary will spon­sor a book and bake sale on Sat­urday, Oct. 6, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the lib­rary, at 6098 Rising Sun Ave.

Beth­any United Church of Christ, at 6545 Rising Sun Ave. (at Magee Av­en­ue), will of­fer a free com­munity din­ner on Wed­nes­day, Oct. 17, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. For more in­form­a­tion, vis­it the Beth­any United Church of Christ – Lawndale – Phil­adelphia page on Face­book.
