Police seize heroin in Rhawnhurst


Nar­cot­ics in­vest­ig­at­ors seized pack­aged heroin worth more than $100,000 from a Rhawn­hurst man on Sept. 21 dur­ing searches of his apart­ment and car, po­lice said.

Ac­cord­ing to Sgt. Robert Fri­el of the Phil­adelphia po­lice’s Nar­cot­ics Field Unit North, a Domin­ic­an Re­pub­lic cit­izen named Richard Nun­ez dis­trib­uted heroin for street-level sales in the city’s East Di­vi­sion and in Wilm­ing­ton, Del.

Nun­ez, 33, lived in an apart­ment at 8020 Al­gon Ave. and al­legedly used it to stash and pack­age bulk quant­it­ies of the drug.

Of­ficer Robert Clark and oth­er in­vest­ig­at­ors saw the sus­pect leave the apart­ment build­ing at about 6:20 p.m. and enter a 2007 Toyota Camry. When po­lice stopped the vehicle at Stan­wood Street and Castor Av­en­ue, they al­legedly saw heroin in­side the vehicle.

The of­ficers seized 1,540 in­di­vidu­ally wrapped pack­ets from the car, then an­oth­er 2,369 pack­ets from the apart­ment, total­ing about 308 grams (11 ounces) of the drug, with a “street value” of $101,729, Fri­el said. In­vest­ig­at­ors also seized drug pack­aging devices and sup­plies.

Nun­ez was charged with drug pos­ses­sion, pos­ses­sion with in­tent to de­liv­er and pos­sess­ing drug paraphernalia. ••
