SKCP’s Can­did­ate’s Night

To­night, the South Kens­ing­ton Com­munity Part­ners will host its Neigh­bor­hood Ad­vis­ory Com­mit­tee (NAC) Can­did­ate’s Night, where mem­bers of the com­munity can meet the NAC can­did­ates and hear how they would like to serve the neigh­bor­hood.

Can­did­ate’s Night will take place at SKCP of­fices, 1301 N. 2nd St., from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Also learn about CityL­IFT, a pro­gram that of­fers $15,000 in down pay­ment as­sist­ance to pro­spect­ive home­buy­ers. ••

Free cook­ing class at LSH

Fishtown Spelling Bee

The 11th an­nu­al Fishtown Spelling Bee will be presen­ted by Fishtown Ac­tion and the Penn Treaty Spe­cial Ser­vices Dis­trict.

The bee will take place on Oct. 26 at Shissler Rec. Cen­ter, 1800-56 Blair St. Doors open at 3:30 p.m., and the com­pet­i­tion will be­gin at 4 p.m. It is open to all stu­dents, re­gard­less of school. Com­pet­i­tion will be co-ed and broken in­to the fol­low­ing age levels: grades 2 to 4, grades 5 to 6 and grades 7 to 8.

Pol­ish cul­tur­al fun­draiser

PAL wrest­ling team

The Phil­adelphia Po­lice Ath­let­ic League Youth Wrest­ling team will hold a re­gis­tra­tion night on Monday, Oct. 29, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Rizzo PAL Cen­ter, Bel­grade and Clear­field streets. This free PAL wrest­ling pro­gram is open to boys ages 5-18.

PTSSD seeks board mem­ber

The Penn Treaty Spe­cial Ser­vices Dis­trict is re­quest­ing let­ters of in­terest and back­ground in­form­a­tion from in­di­vidu­als who would like to fill its cur­rent North­ern Liber­ties va­cancy on the Board of Dir­ect­ors.

In or­der to qual­i­fy, you must be a res­id­ent of North­ern Liber­ties for no less than five con­sec­ut­ive years and avail­able to meet on the third Wed­nes­day of the month (Sept. through June) from roughly 6 to 9 p.m. This is a vo­lun­teer po­s­i­tion.

RW­CW’s ‘Night Out’

Breast can­cer aware­ness

Naz­areth Hos­pit­al and the Ladies of Port Rich­mond will present a breast can­cer edu­ca­tion and aware­ness event on Tues­day, Oct. 30, at 4:30 p.m. at at Rich­mond Hall, 2619 E. In­di­ana Ave.

The event will fea­ture din­ner and an on­co­logy pan­el dis­cus­sion with ex­perts from Naz­areth Hos­pit­al and the Amer­ic­an Can­cer So­ci­ety. Ad­mis­sion is $5. Ad­vance re­gis­tra­tion is re­quired by call­ing 1-866-NAZ-ARET. ••

PRO­PAC/PRTW to meet

The next meet­ing of Port Rich­mond on Patrol and Civic and Port Rich­mond Town Watch will be at 7 p.m. on Tues­day, Oct. 30, at Samuel Rec. Cen­ter, Gaul and Tioga streets. The group will vote for PRO­PAC board mem­bers, and there will also be a rep­res­ent­at­ive from the 24th Po­lice Dis­trict to go over area crime stat­ist­ics. ••

St. Anne’s mu­sic so­ci­ety

Mu­sic dir­ect­or Nick Pig­nataro wants all mu­si­cians and sing­ers to join an all-new mu­sic so­ci­ety at St. Anne’s Church on Wed­nes­days (not Tues­days, as pre­vi­ously noted). This will be a spe­cial group of in­di­vidu­als wish­ing to sing or play in­stru­ments in at least two con­certs each year.

The church is loc­ated at Le­high and Mem­ph­is streets in Port Rich­mond. The group will meet on Wed­nes­days at 7 p.m. It will be an all-vo­lun­teer, all-de­nom­in­a­tion com­munity mu­sic so­ci­ety. For more info, call 215-426-8422. ••

Fall sports at Shissler Rec

Ap­plic­a­tions are now be­ing ac­cep­ted for fall sports at Shissler Rec., in­clud­ing bas­ket­ball for boys and girls ages 10 to 13 and men’s in­door soc­cer. Cost is $300 per team. Money is due Nov. 9.

A wo­men’s 19-years-old and over in­door soc­cer league is also tak­ing ap­plic­tions. Cost is $300 per team, and must be paid by Oct. 26. For more info, con­tact Shissler Rec. at 215-685-9888. ••

Brides­burg Rec. pro­grams

The Brides­burg Rec. Cen­ter is of­fer­ing vari­ous adult activ­it­ies this fall and winter, in­clud­ing: Zumba classes Mondays, Thursdays and Sat­urdays; ceram­ics Mondays and Tues­days; scrap book­ing Wed­nes­days and a ladies’ bowl­ing league that meets Tues­days.
