PTSSD seeks board mem­ber

The Penn Treaty Spe­cial Ser­vices Dis­trict is re­quest­ing let­ters of in­terest and back­ground in­form­a­tion from in­di­vidu­als who would like to fill its cur­rent North­ern Liber­ties va­cancy on the Board of Dir­ect­ors.

In or­der to qual­i­fy, you must be a res­id­ent of North­ern Liber­ties for no less than five con­sec­ut­ive years and avail­able to meet on the third Wed­nes­day of the month (Sept. through June) from roughly 6 to 9 p.m. This is a vo­lun­teer po­s­i­tion. Sub­mit let­ter of in­terest no later than Monday, Oct. 29 to Kerry Auge, PTSSD Ad­min­is­trat­or, via email: kauge@pen­ntreatyssd.com. ••

St. Anne’s mu­sic so­ci­ety

Mu­sic dir­ect­or Mr. Nick Pig­nataro wants all mu­si­cians and sing­ers to join an all-new mu­sic so­ci­ety at St. Anne’s Church on Tues­days. This will be a spe­cial group of in­di­vidu­als wish­ing to sing or play in­stru­ments in at least two con­certs each year.

The church is loc­ated at Le­high and Mem­ph­is streets, in the heart of Port Rich­mond. The group will meet on Tues­days at 7 p.m. It will be an all-vo­lun­teer, all-de­nom­in­a­tion com­munity mu­sic so­ci­ety. For more in­form­a­tion, call 215-426-8422. ••

Frank Glav­in flea mar­ket

A flea mar­ket will be held at Frank Glav­in Play­ground, 2600 West­mo­re­land St., on Sat­urday, Oct. 20, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cost is $10 for vendors.

Booth space will be avail­able on Al­mond and West­mo­re­land street. Bring your own table. No  food vendors.

In­struc­tion and activ­it­ies at the play­ground in­clude: an after school pro­gram, dance, tum­bling, Tae Kwon Do, Girl Scouts, Zumba and com­pet­i­tion dance. For in­form­a­tion on pro­grams, con­tact 215-685-9898. ••

Girl Scouts at Frank Glav­in

The Girl Scouts are meet­ing at Frank Glav­in Play­ground, at 2600 West­mo­re­land St. The play­ground has open­ings in its Brownie and Ju­ni­or troops. Brownies, girls in second and third grades, meet on Monday nights from 6:45 to 8. Ju­ni­ors, girls in fourth through sixth grades, meet on Wed­nes­day nights from 6:45 to 8.

A re­gis­tra­tion fee of $12 is re­quired to join. For more info., stop by the play­ground dur­ing troop meet­ings. ••

Kon­rad Square flea mar­ket

St. Joan of Arc re­union

The church in­vites the class of 1962 to its 50th re­union on Sunday, Oct. 21. Mass will be­gin at noon at the church, 2025 E. At­lantic St. A din­ner will fol­low un­til 5 p.m. at Cas­bah Cater­ers, loc­ated at Thompson and Tioga streets.

Fall sports at Shissler Rec

Ap­plic­a­tions are now be­ing ac­cep­ted for fall sports at Shissler Rec., in­clud­ing bas­ket­ball for boys and girls ages 10 to 13 and men’s in­door soc­cer. Cost is $300 per team. Money is due by Nov. 9.

A wo­men’s 19-years-old and over in­door soc­cer league is also tak­ing ap­plic­tions. Cost is $300 per team, and must be paid by Oct. 26.

Philly Photo Day

On Oct. 26, the Phil­adelphia Photo Arts Cen­ter in­vites every­one in Phil­adelphia to take a photo on the same day.  Every pic­ture re­ceived will be prin­ted and hung for a unique ex­hib­i­tion of a day in the life of Phil­adelphia.

In ad­di­tion to the main ex­hib­i­tion, se­lect pho­to­graphs will be ex­hib­ited on buses, trains and bill­boards throughout the city. Up­load pho­tos at www.phil­apho­toarts.org.

The Fishtown Com­munity Branch of the Free Lib­rary of Phil­adelphia, at 1217 E. Mont­gomery Ave., is a com­munity part­ner for this event. 

From 2 to 5 p.m. that day, the lib­rary will host a teach­ing artist who will bring cam­er­as and teach a ba­sic pho­to­graphy cur­riculum. 

PPAC’s cam­er­as will be lim­ited, so if pos­sible, bring your own di­git­al cam­era or cell phone cam­era, as well as the as­so­ci­ated cord to down­load im­ages. ••

Fishtown Spelling Bee

The 11th an­nu­al Fishtown Spelling Bee will be presen­ted by Fishtown Ac­tion and the Penn Treaty Spe­cial Ser­vices Dis­trict. The bee will take place on Oct. 26 at Shissler Rec. Cen­ter, 1800-56 Blair St. Doors open at 3:30 p.m., and the com­pet­i­tion will be­gin at 4 p.m.

It is open to all stu­dents, re­gard­less of school. Com­pet­i­tion will be co-ed and broken in­to the fol­low­ing age levels: grades 2 to 4, grades 5 to 6 and grades 7 to 8.  The win­ners will get a pizza party for their classrooms. ••

Penn Treaty Park flea mar­ket

Join the friends group Sat­urday, Oct. 27 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the park, Columbia and Delaware av­en­ues. Flea mar­ket spaces are avail­able for $15; fees due no later than Oct. 20.

Hal­loween at La Fin­quita

On Oct. 20, La Fin­quita, “The Little Farm,” at Mas­ter and Lawrence streets, will have a “Pump­kin Party” with pump­kin-carving, face-paint­ing and farm tours from noon to 3 p.m. A “Freaky Fun­draiser” party and cos­tume con­test will take place from 8 p.m. to mid­night.

FACT (Fishtown Ac­tion) is hav­ing a “make your own sundae” Hal­loween Party on Sunday, Oct.  28. The party is for chil­dren ages 10 and un­der.

Pol­ish cul­tur­al fun­draiser

PRO­PAC/PRTW to meet

The next meet­ing of Port Rich­mond on Patrol and Civic and Port Rich­mond Town Watch will be at 7 p.m. on Tues­day, Oct. 30, at Samuel Rec. Cen­ter, Gaul and Tioga streets.

The group will vote for PRO­PAC board mem­bers and dis­cuss items of com­munity in­terest. There will also be a rep­res­ent­at­ive from the 24th Po­lice Dis­trict to go over area crime stat­ist­ics. ••

Breast can­cer aware­ness

Naz­areth Hos­pit­al and the Ladies of Port Rich­mond will present a breast can­cer edu­ca­tion and aware­ness event on Tues­day, Oct. 30, at 4:30 p.m. at at Rich­mond Hall, 2619 E. In­di­ana Ave.
