7th PDAC names Officer of the Month at recent meeting

The 7th Police District Advisory Council honored Timothy Taylor as the district’s Officer of the Month last Thursday during the PDAC’s monthly meeting at Klein JCC.

During October, Taylor arrested a Center City shooting suspect and assisted in the capture and investigation of two auto break-in suspects.

On Wednesday, Oct. 2, Taylor conducted surveillance of the home of the alleged gunman on the 2300 block of Solly Ave. At about 9 a.m., the suspect emerged from the house and drove away in his car. Taylor followed him to the area of Bustleton Avenue and Fuller Street, where the officer attempted to stop the car.

The suspect fled, prompting Taylor to begin pursuit. After about one mile, the alleged gunman drove onto a curb, causing his car to sustain a flat tire. He surrendered without further incident. Police obtained a search warrant for his house and car and recovered a .22-caliber revolver that the suspect allegedly used in the shooting.

In a separate Oct. 7 case, Taylor was on duty when police received complaints about car break-ins at Conwell Recreation Center, 9900 President St., during a youth football game. Taylor went to the playground and met a woman who reported that she had seen two men attempting to break into cars in the parking lot. The crooks were riding in a silver Chrysler 300.

Taylor relayed the description to police radio. Within minutes, police located and stopped the Chrysler at Welsh Road and Roosevelt Boulevard. Taylor spotted a handbag in the rear seat of the car and summoned the witness, who identified the suspects as the thieves from Conwell.

In the meantime, another woman discovered that her car had been broken into and her handbag stolen. She identified the recovered handbag as hers. ••
