Prep Charter gets revenge on GW softball in Public-League quarterfinal

On Thursday afternoon, Prep Charter headed to George Washington for a Public League second-round playoff softball game.

During their regular season matchup on March 26, the Washington bats erupted en route to a statement 26–11 victory. The second time around was a different story.

Prep Charter began the game with hot bats, scoring six runs in the top of the first behind Shannon Grant’s two-run double. They never looked back from there, exacting revenge on the Eagles on their way to a 16–5 win.

In the top of the second, Prep Charter added to their six-run lead on a two-run single by Jonna Volpe.

Washington settled down some in the third inning. After retiring the side in the top half of the inning on three consecutive groundouts, sophomore pitcher Brittany Jones helped her own cause with a two-run single, putting the Eagles on the board.

After both teams tallied a run in the fourth, Prep Charter took a stranglehold on the game in their half of the fifth, scoring seven runs in the frame (due in large part to seven walks). The highlight of the inning came from Volpe once again, as she lined a two-run double to raise her RBI total to four on the day

For George Washington, senior first baseman Lindsey Porter, in her final game, went 2-for-3 with a RBI single and a double, and pitcher Jones also had two hits.

Taylor Borelli got the complete game (five innings) win for Prep Charter. She tallied five strikeouts and allowed just two earned runs. Grant finished the game 3-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs scored.

Prep Charter advanced to the quarterfinals to face Masterman, where they fell, 8–5. ••
