Lawncrest to celebrate 'A Community United' on Fourth


The 97th an­nu­al Lawn­crest 4th of Ju­ly Cel­eb­ra­tion will take place next Wed­nes­day, with a rain date of Ju­ly 7.

The theme is A Com­munity United.

A parade will be­gin at 9 a.m. at Rising Sun Av­en­ue and Mar­tin’s Mill Road and pro­ceed south to the Lawn­crest Re­cre­ation Cen­ter at Comly Street. The grand mar­shals will be former teach­ers and nuns at St. Wil­li­am School, which closed for good on June 15.

All alumni and former stu­dents of St. Wil­li­am and cur­rent stu­dents at Ben­jamin Frank­lin Ele­ment­ary School are in­vited to march in the parade. They should gath­er at 8:30 a.m. at the start­ing point.

Activ­it­ies will take place at the re­cre­ation cen­ter.

There will be an Amer­ic­an flag-rais­ing ce­re­mony, a flea mar­ket/craft show, car show, chil­dren’s rides, food court, live bands, ma­gic show, drill teams and fire­works at dusk.

The dunk tank is ex­pec­ted to be a pop­u­lar fea­ture. Balls are three for $1.

Randy Brubaker, Cres­centville United Meth­od­ist Church (1-1:30 p.m.); Ron Pleis, cub­mas­ter, Pack 563 (1:30-2 p.m.); mem­bers of Lawn­crest Lions (2-2:30 p.m.); the Rev. Ben Krey, Prince of Peace Church (2:30-3 p.m.); mem­bers of At­tack Mode Box­ing Club (3-3:30 p.m.); and Jim Ritval­sky, re­tir­ing Lawn­crest Re­cre­ation Cen­ter lead­er (3:30-4 p.m.).
