Can you build a sol­id struc­ture out of marsh­mal­lows? A “marsh­mal­low chal­lenge” is open to school-aged stu­dents and teen­agers. Join the Red Paw Emer­gency Re­sponse Team, a non-profit that helps dis­placed pets and their own­ers, for Red Paw Fest, from 8 to 11 p.m. at Finnigan’s Wake at 3rd and Spring Garden streets. Greens­grow Farms presents a les­son in hand-rolled pasta and light sum­mer sauces with Garces Trad­ing Com­pany Chef De Cuisine, Gregg Cipri­oni. From noon to 2 p.m. at the Greens­grow Com­munity Kit­chen at St. Mi­chael’s, 2139 East Cum­ber­land St. (enter at the blue door of the Trenton Av­en­ue en­trance), Cipri­oni will show you how to make light sum­mer sauces, pasta dough, hand-rolled pasta, and plin—a del­ic­ate stuffed ra­vi­oli. The Phil­adelphia Spin­ners, the city’s pro­fes­sion­al Ul­ti­mate Disc team, will take on the Con­necti­c­ut Con­sti­tu­tion in the in­aug­ur­al Amer­ic­an Ul­ti­mate Disc League sea­son. Tick­ets cost $14, and the match will be held at 3 p.m. at Frank­lin Field, loc­ated at the in­ter­sec­tion of S. 33rd and South streets. Come sup­port a unique sport!  ••

This sum­mer, Phil­adelphia’s Frank­lin In­sti­tute will fea­ture the most com­pre­hens­ive col­lec­tion of an­cient ar­ti­facts from Is­rael ever or­gan­ized in the new ex­hib­it Dead Sea Scrolls - Life and Faith in An­cient Times. The ex­hib­it in­cludes one of the largest col­lec­tions of the price­less 2000-year-old Dead Sea Scrolls ever dis­played in North Amer­ica and an ac­tu­al three-ton stone from the West­ern Wall in Jer­u­s­alem, and marks the world de­but of four scrolls. Stay safe this sum­mer—take a free self-de­fense class in memory of Sa­bina Rose O’Don­nell, who was murdered June 2, 2010. The Urb­an De­fense Cen­ter will of­fer the class every Wed­nes­day in June. The class is held at 6:30 p.m. at the Urb­an De­fense Cen­ter, 725 N. 6th St.

Par­ti­cipants learn ba­sic and ad­vanced self-de­fense tech­niques to avoid dan­ger­ous situ­ations and to es­cape from an as­sail­ant.

Lead­ing the class is Mas­ter Lawrence Whi­taker, who has been cer­ti­fied in Re­strain­ing Arts by the In­sti­tute of Cer­ti­fied Mar­tial Arts.
