Kon­rad Square flea mar­ket

The Friends of Kon­rad Square will host a flea mar­ket on Sat­urday, Ju­ly 14 and Sat­urday, Ju­ly 28 at Kon­rad Square at Tulip and Dauph­in streets from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Any­one in­ter­ested in rent­ing a space should call Vicky at 215-426-9654. ••

St. Anne’s pro­duce vouch­ers

St. Anne’s Seni­or Cen­ter will be dis­trib­ut­ing pro­duce vouch­ers through the Seni­or Farm­ers’ Mar­ket Nu­tri­tion Pro­gram.

You will re­ceive four $5 vouch­ers that will be val­id un­til Nov. 30, 2012.

Act­ive cen­ter mem­bers can pick up vouch­ers Mon.-Fri. Ju­ly 9 through Ju­ly 20 from 10 a.m. un­til noon.

Non-mem­bers can re­ceive vouch­ers on: Tues­day, Ju­ly 10, Wed­nes­day Ju­ly 11, Tues­day, Ju­ly 17 and Wed­nes­day Ju­ly 18, from 2 to 4 p.m. each day.

You must be 60 years old by Decem­ber 31, 2012 (show proof of age), live in Phil­adelphia with proof of ad­dress, and meet cer­tain in­come re­quire­ments.

Vouch­ers are avail­able while sup­plies last; you can only re­ceive vouch­ers once per year. For more in­form­a­tion call the seni­or cen­ter (loc­ate at 2607 E. Cum­ber­land St.) at 215-426-9799. ••

Justice for Wayne walk

At 10 a.m. on Ju­ly 28, there will be a march in memory of Wayne El­lis. He was shot and killed while on his way home on Ju­ly 28, 2002, at Bel­grade Street and Frank­ford Av­en­ue.

In the 10 years since his death the fam­ily claims they have no an­swers. The march hopes to break the si­lence. They seek 100 or more people to join in the walk. Every­one is wel­come.

The walk will be­gin at Club Deco on Front and Spring Garden streets and head to Frank­ford Av­en­ue at Bel­grade Street.

It costs $20 per per­son to par­ti­cip­ate in the walk and you will re­ceive a brace­let and tee shirt. There will be a block party and beef-and-beer af­ter­wards start­ing at 3 p.m., plus a DJ. It will cost $30 to at­tend the beef-and-beer if you don’t par­ti­cip­ate in the me­mori­al walk. All money raised will be donated to the AOH Fishtown Di­vi­sion 51.

The fam­ily will be selling shirts, brace­lets, raffle tick­ets and bas­kets. They still need dona­tions, and every little bit helps. Come sup­port a great cause. For info call Amy El­lis at 267-339-1133 or Wayne El­lis Sr. at 215-913-6437. ••

Brides­burg Rec. Cen­ter classes

The cen­ter, at 4625 Rich­mond St., will hold the fol­low­ing classes and camps this sum­mer (for spe­cif­ic times, cost and in­form­a­tion about each class, please vis­it or call the cen­ter at 216-685-1247). The classes and camps in­clude: day camp for chil­dren ages 2, 3 and 4; tum­bling and gym­nastics camp for ages 3 through 12, and a Zumba class for adults Mondays and Thursdays from 7 to 8 p.m. Camps and classes are filling up quickly and start soon—give the cen­ter a call today! ••

Roar at the Shore

Rock to the Fu­ture seeks stu­dents

After two suc­cess­ful years, Rock to the Fu­ture will again be ex­pand­ing ca­pa­city for the 2012-2013 pro­gram year!

The pro­gram is free for par­ti­cipants (a $50 de­pos­it is re­ques­ted and re­turned upon pro­gram com­ple­tion).

Stu­dents at Rock to the Fu­ture learn vari­ous in­stru­ments, write ori­gin­al mu­sic, and per­form throughout the year at vari­ous com­munity events and ven­ues. Stu­dents also re­ceive daily home­work help to im­prove their grades.

To ap­ply, stu­dents must be ages 9-14 by  Septem­ber 1, must reside in Phil­adelphia, and must be lower-in­come and/or at-risk.

Penn Treaty Park movie

The Friends of Penn Treaty Park in­vite you to “Movie in the Park” night, on Tues­day, Ju­ly 10 at 7 p.m., to see “A Dol­phin Tale.” This film is rated PG, so bring the en­tire fam­ily to see this heart­warm­ing story of Winter the dol­phin. The park is loc­ated at 1199 N. Delaware Ave. ••

A Car­rib­bean feast

The 8th an­nu­al Carib­bean Feast will be held Sat­urday, Ju­ly 14 from noon to 8 p.m. at 1338 Rising Sun Ave.

Hos­ted by the Peaches and Cream Found­a­tion, this event brings food, praise dan­cers, a live reg­gae band, live DJ, wa­ter slide, moon bounce, kids’ work­shops and more! Kids 12 and un­der eat free from noon un­til 3 p.m.

PAL selling Phil­lies tick­ets

The Po­lice Ath­let­ic League of Phil­adelphia and the Ju­ni­or Base­ball Fed­er­a­tion cel­eb­rate their 64th year of part­ner­ship in rais­ing funds to sup­port in­ner-city youth by mak­ing Phil­lies tick­ets avail­able for pur­chase.

Forty per­cent of each tick­et pur­chase is donated back to PAL. Tick­ets can be pur­chased at: PAL Headquar­ters, 2524 E. Clear­field St.

Buy tick­ets for the fol­low­ing games: Monday, Au­gust 6, vs. Braves, 7:05 p.m.; Wed­nes­day, Au­gust 22, vs. Reds, 7:05 p.m.; Thursday, Au­gust 23 vs. Reds, 7:05 p.m.; Wed­nes­day, Septem­ber 12, vs. Mar­lins, 4:05 p.m.; Tues­day, Septem­ber 25 vs. Na­tion­als, 7:05 p.m. Tick­ets are $30 each.

Monkiewicz events

Monkiewicz Play­ground is hav­ing open re­gis­tra­tion for sum­mer camps for chil­dren ages 3 1/2 to 11.

Camps run through Au­gust 10, and after care is avail­able. Monkiewicz also has a few spaces in its fall Tot Rec. pro­gram for ages 2 1/2 to 4 1/2.

Sol Food Mo­bile Farm

The Sol Food Mo­bile Farm bus will be rolling in­to Philly Ju­ly 9 to build a com­munity garden in part­ner­ship with Little Ber­lin.

Sol Food Mo­bile Farm was cre­ated as an ex­per­i­en­tial, hands-on teach­ing pro­gram based around plant­ing and har­vest­ing garden ve­get­ables.

The mo­bile non­profit op­er­ates out of a ret­ro­fit­ted school bus and works with com­munit­ies in their own back­yards!

Sol Food will be build­ing a com­munity ve­get­able garden at the Little Ber­lin Fair­grounds, 2430 Cor­al St. from Ju­ly 9 through 12, work­ing each day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Tues­day and Wed­nes­day will be garden build days, fol­lowed by a cel­eb­ra­tion on Thursday!

Join St. Anne’s choir

The mu­sic pro­gram at St. Anne’s Church, loc­ated at 2328 E. Le­high Ave., is look­ing for chor­al sing­ers to join the church’s fest­iv­al choir. The choir will sing at the Sol­emn Clos­ing of the Novena to St. Anne on Thursday, Ju­ly 26 at 7 p.m.

Frank Glav­in play­ground dance work­shop

Broad­way Dance is “step­pin’” to the Frank Glav­in play­ground, at 2600 E. West­mo­re­land St. this sum­mer, with a spe­cial dance work­shop pat­terned to Broad­way per­form­ances.

This eight-week in­struc­tion­al pro­gram will be held weekly on Wed­nes­day even­ings from 7 to 8:30 p.m. through Au­gust 15 (no class Ju­ly 4). 

The course is de­signed for those 10 years old and older. Pro­gram cost is $50. Stu­dents should have tap or jazz shoes and wa­ter. Class size will be lim­ited, so re­gis­tra­tion in ad­vance is re­quired. Please con­tact the of­fice at 215-685-9898. ••
