Yards hates cancer
On Friday, July 27, Yards Brewing Company, at 901 N. Delaware Ave., will throw a party to launch their new “Cape of Good Hope” beer as well as celebrate their team’s part in this year’s “The Dude Hates Cancer” bowling tournament, which raises funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Stop the Violence Walk
On July 28 at 12 p.m., at 5th Street and Allegheny Avenue, a walk will begin in memory of Alexander “Tito” Martinez and all fallen victims in the city.
The walk will continue to Frankford Avenue and Allegheny Avenue, where walkers will rally for safer streets. A cookout will be held at the rally; contact Rosalind at 856-745-6045 to provide donations. ••
AVI and you
The South Kensington Community Partners will present a “Community Conversation” regarding the city’s Actual Value Initiative (AVI) on Thursday, July 26 from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Concilio, 705 N. Franklin St., between Fairmount Avenue and Brown Street.
Special guests include Tom Ferrick and Neil Budde; refreshments will be served.
Topics up for discussion are: how the city’s Actual Value Initiative and Homestead Exemption will affect the property taxes paid by neighborhood homeowners in South/Old Kensington, Ludlow, and parts of Northern Liberties, Norris Square and East/West Poplar; changes to Voter ID law, and upcoming (fall 2012) Advisory Committee elections. ••
Northeast Catholic reunion
Northeast Catholic Alumni Association will hold its 16th annual “Falcons Fun in the Sun” reunion for all alumni on Saturday, August 4.
It will be held at Lighthouse Pointe, Wildwood N.J. from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Price is $25 per person, in advance, which includes draft beer, soda, wine, a buffet and music by the Buddy Starling Band. Summer basketball league
The Hancock Recreation Center will be hosting its annual summer basketball league. Children ages 13 and under and those 14 to 16 years old may participate. The league fee will be $100 per team, of which $50 will be refunded if your team does not forfeit any games.

Sean Daily memorial sports tournament
The Port Richmond Tigers will sponsor the 24th annual sports tournament on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, July 27, 28 and 29.
