Police press their search for mugger

First, he was lost; then, he went missing.

Now, authorities continue to search for the mugger who last April roughed up a 75-year-old woman outside a Northeast Philadelphia medical office.

Police hope that new informants will help lead them in the right direction.

The crime occurred April 7 at about 3:10 p.m. at 2813 Cottman Ave. The victim was walking toward the rear entrance of the office when an unknown man approached her and asked her to direct him toward a certain street.

When the woman said she was unfamiliar with that street, the man grabbed her pocketbook. The woman held onto the strap and fell to the ground as the robber pulled the purse away from her.

He fled on foot toward Revere Street.

The purse contained the woman’s wallet, $60 cash, credit cards, identification and keys.

The assailant was described as white, 25 to 30 years old, 5 feet 6 inches tall and 160 to 175 pounds. He wore a brown baseball cap with a logo on the front; blue jeans; white sneakers; and a gray, white and orange nylon windbreaker. He was seen operating a dark red sedan, possibly a late 1990s Ford or Mercury with a sunroof.

Surveillance video of the crime can be viewed at www.phillypolice.com. To report information about the case, call 215–686-TIPS or visit the Web site. Tipsters may remain anonymous. ••
