Lighting up the holidays

— A Christ­mas craft show and tree light­ing help spread cheer in May­fair.

Sev­er­al hun­dred people gathered Sunday for a Christ­mas craft fair and tree-light­ing ce­re­mony near the in­ter­sec­tion of Frank­ford, Ry­an and Cottman av­en­ues.

The event was sponsored by the May­fair Busi­ness As­so­ci­ation. The May­fair Com­munity De­vel­op­ment Cor­por­a­tion handed out cook­ies and hot chocol­ate, while site host Re­pub­lic Bank gave away lol­li­pops.

Santa and Mrs. Claus joined civic as­so­ci­ation pres­id­ents Joe De­Fe­lice (May­fair), Mary Be­nussi (Ta­cony) and Rich Frizell (Holmes­burg) in light­ing the tree. The Grinch even joined in the fest­iv­it­ies.

Elec­ted of­fi­cials in at­tend­ance were City Con­trol­ler Alan Butkovitz, state Rep. Kev­in Boyle, City Coun­cil­man Bobby Hen­on and City Com­mis­sion­er Al Schmidt.

Mu­sic­al en­ter­tain­ment was provided by the St. Hubert High School choir, Nick Gi­an­netti and Tri­cia and Glenn Paf­fen.

Av­en­ue Chiro­pract­ic or­gan­ized a col­lec­tion for Toys for Tots. Also, books and DVDs were col­lec­ted for Chil­dren’s Hos­pit­al of Phil­adelphia. ••
