Friends of Pennypack Park score a big post-Thanksgiving cleanup

Twenty-five vo­lun­teers worked off some Thanks­giv­ing cal­or­ies dur­ing the monthly Friends of Pennypack Park cleanup day on Sat­urday, Nov. 24. Par­ti­cipants re­moved 39 bags of debris from the park in the area of Rhawn Street and Lex­ing­ton Av­en­ue.

Vo­lun­teers, with help from five Com­munity Life Im­prove­ment Pro­gram work­ers, cleaned along Lex­ing­ton Av­en­ue from the North­east Com­munity Cen­ter to Brock­el­hurst Street; along Rhawn Street to Hol­me­hurst Av­en­ue; and the dirt path from Holme Av­en­ue to Sandy Run, al­though trees fallen by Hur­ricane Sandy made the path im­pass­able to the group’s off-road vehicles.

Par­ti­cipants in­cluded Norma Rudolph, Louise Susar, Rich Glaser, Mary Jane Roberts, Robert McMunn, Kar­en Kaczorek, Alan Kam­in­sky, Joyce Fer­rero, Tom and Den­ise Eiler, Sheila Gross­man, Jim Smyth, George Scholl, Kev­in Sweetra, An­drew Puzdrak, Sandy and Jim Stew­art, Betty Landolfi, Linda Tul­lai, Robert Tul­lai, Zbig­niew Kor­necki, Ro­land Wil­li­ams, Jim Ry­an and Nance Kerns. The CLIP crew in­cluded Jim Mc­Carthy, Mike Beu­t­en­meuller, Chris Kiple, Mike John­son and Kev­in Fitzpatrick.

In ad­di­tion to 39 bags of trash, the group col­lec­ted six bags of cans, two car tires, three milk crates, one par­tial milk crate, part of a shop­ping cart, a Thanks­giv­ing flag dec­or­a­tion, Hal­loween dec­or­a­tions, a Con­tin­ent­al Tire sign, a dis­placed trash can, a sec­tion of cable wire, two broken um­brel­las, one in-tact um­brella, part of an iron, a wrench, scis­sors, a met­al rake, a shovel blade, a pair of jeans, a sneak­er sole, an in­ner tube, a toy gui­tar, a wal­let with ID and a half-case of un­opened beer.

There are no park cleanup days sched­uled from Decem­ber through Feb­ru­ary. The next event will be Sat­urday, March 23, at the ball field on Holme Av­en­ue be­hind Naz­areth Hos­pit­al. Call 215-934-PARK or e-mail to FOPPMonthly­ for in­form­a­tion. ••
