Burglar steals $65,000 in cash from Wissinoming home

A burg­lar hit the jack­pot when he broke in­to a Wissi­nom­ing home on Aug. 1, steal­ing $65,000 in cash plus jew­elry, ac­cord­ing to Phil­adelphia po­lice.

A 34-year-old man flagged down a 15th dis­trict patrol of­ficer at about 6:30 that even­ing to re­port that someone had broken in­to his house on Jack­son Street near Har­bison Av­en­ue. The vic­tim found a lad­der propped against an open second-floor win­dow.

The vic­tim said he had left the house at about noon and re­turned home at 6 p.m. In ad­di­tion to the cash and jew­elry, the burg­lar also stole a video re­cord­ing device hooked up to the vic­tim’s sur­veil­lance cam­era.

A wo­man res­id­ent of the home told a tele­vi­sion news re­port­er that her fam­ily had just sold a North Phil­adelphia bar and was plan­ning to use the pro­ceeds of the sale to buy a gro­cery store.

Po­lice have not re­leased a de­scrip­tion of a sus­pect. ••
