The Congregations of Ner Zedek is inviting the community to attend its annual Labor Day fund-raising concert.
For the seventh time in eight years, the synagogue will host the Broadway Sings concert production.
The concert will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 3, at Ner Zedek, 7520 Bustleton Ave. in Rhawnhurst.
In all, Ner Zedek has held 16 concerts over the years. Formerly, they were in the spring.
Now, the tradition is to have the concert on the first Monday in September and to invite Broadway Sings back each year.
About a dozen members of the concert committee make the arrangements and spread the word about the show.
Attendance last year was about 550. Organizers believe people enjoy the afternoon show, since they can go out to eat afterward and be home before it’s dark.
But the big draw remains the performers.
“People are thrilled by them. They love it,” said Jack Belitsky, chairman of the concert committee.
Belitsky described the performers as not just people who sing Broadway tunes, but current and former stars of Broadway hit shows.
“They’ve starred in every major Broadway hit of the last fifteen years,” he said.
The performers will sing favorites from shows such as The Producers, Les Miserables, Rent, Mamma Mia!, The Phantom of the Opera, Cats, Beauty and the Beast, Jekyll & Hyde, Chicago: The Musical and Wicked.
“These are Broadway professionals,” said Don Agriss, the concert committee’s publicity chairman.
Bustleton-based Congregations of Shaare Shamayim and synagogues in Wynnewood and Cherry Hill, N.J., have hosted Broadway Sings for recent concerts.
“Ner Zedek takes pride in what Broadway Sings has become. Other synagogues and organizations are using them as part of their fund-raising efforts,” Agriss said.
Firstrust Bank, owned by the Green family, returns as the concert’s prime sponsor.
Tickets cost $36. The cost is $100 for two tickets and a post-concert reception or $200 for four tickets and the reception. There’s a 10 percent discount on group sales of 20 or more tickets. ••
