Tacony History Day is in the near future

The 21st an­nu­al Ta­cony His­tory Day fest­iv­it­ies are sched­uled for Sat­urday, Sept. 15.

The event is co­ordin­ated by the His­tor­ic­al So­ci­ety of Ta­cony, the Ta­cony Civic As­so­ci­ation and the Ta­cony Com­munity De­vel­op­ment Cor­por­a­tion.

The high­light is a parade that kicks off at 11 a.m. at Tor­res­dale Av­en­ue and Heller­man Street. The route pro­ceeds north on Tor­res­dale, west on Prin­ceton Av­en­ue and south on Cot­tage Street. The parade ends at Dis­ston Re­cre­ation Cen­ter, at 4510 Dis­ston St.

The grand mar­shal will be mu­sic le­gend Charlie Gracie. Oth­er par­ti­cipants will in­clude the Great­er Kens­ing­ton, Ferko and Pol­ish Amer­ic­an string bands; Ir­ish Thun­der Pipes and Drums; and the Fath­er Judge High School band.

There will be a fest­iv­al at Dis­ston Re­cre­ation Cen­ter from noon to 4 p.m. Activ­it­ies in­clude chil­dren’s rides, games, con­tests, sand art, spin art and face-paint­ing.

En­ter­tain­ment will be provided by Anna Mar­ie’s Academy of Dance, Tommy Con­well, Bison and F-3.

In­doors, there will be a large ex­hib­it of loc­al his­tory. Guided trol­ley tours of the his­tor­ic Dis­ston Es­tate will be offered.

Food and re­fresh­ments will be avail­able.

The event is fun­ded by loc­al busi­nesses and a grant from the city De­part­ment of Re­cre­ation, with the as­sist­ance of City Coun­cil­man Bobby Hen­on.
