Woman killed in Krewstown Road crash

An eld­erly wo­man died and an­oth­er was crit­ic­ally in­jured Monday in a single-vehicle crash on a wind­ing stretch of Krewstown Road in Pennypack Park.

The ac­ci­dent oc­curred at about 1:30 p.m. on the 8500 block of Krewstown, just west of Al­gon Av­en­ue, ac­cord­ing to the Phil­adelphia Po­lice De­part­ment’s ac­ci­dent in­vest­ig­a­tion di­vi­sion.

A 2006 Lin­coln Town Car driv­en by a wo­man in her 70s was trav­el­ing south­bound when it failed to ne­go­ti­ate a bend in the road, crossed in­to the north­bound lane, struck a guard­rail and plummeted in­to sev­er­al feet of wa­ter in the Pennypack Creek.

The driver was pro­nounced dead at the scene. A 71-year-old wo­man pas­sen­ger was taken to Aria Health Tor­res­dale in crit­ic­al con­di­tion. The iden­tit­ies of the vic­tims have not been re­leased.

No oth­er vehicles were in­volved or in­jur­ies re­por­ted. The cause of the crash re­mains un­der in­vest­ig­a­tion. ••
