Fund-raiser run at Northeast Airport

The eighth an­nu­al North­east Philly 5-Mile Run and 2-Mile Walk is set for Sunday at North­east Phil­adelphia Air­port.

Par­ti­cipants can ar­rive at the air­port en­trance at Grant Av­en­ue and Ashton Road.

Re­gis­tra­tion starts at 7 a.m., with the walk be­gin­ning at 8:15 a.m. and the run get­ting un­der way at 9 a.m. The re­gis­tra­tion fee is $20, or $10 for any­one age 14 and young­er.

An awards ce­re­mony is sched­uled for 10:30 a.m. There will be prizes for the top three over­all male and fe­male run­ners, the win­ning Mas­ters (over 40) and the top three in age groups.

Pro­ceeds be­ne­fit the North­east Phil­adelphia Sports Al­li­ance, which con­sists of Academy Sabres Sports As­so­ci­ation, Cal­vary Ath­let­ic As­so­ci­ation, Liberty Bell Youth Or­gan­iz­a­tion, Park­wood Youth Or­gan­iz­a­tion, Penn Academy Ath­let­ic As­so­ci­ation, Penn Crisp Inc., Phil­adelphia Soc­cer Club and Tor­res­dale Boys Club. State Rep. and City Coun­cil can­did­ate Den­nis O’Bri­en (R-169th dist.) or­gan­izes the race. 

There is plenty of free, on-site park­ing at the air­port. The largely flat course will take run­ners and walk­ers on the pave­ment sur­round­ing the peri­met­er of the air­port. Cheer­lead­ers will greet par­ti­cipants.

The morn­ing will in­clude a disc jockey and break­fast by Vil­lage Ca­ter­ing.
