Police officer charged with assault

A Phil­adelphia po­lice of­ficer has been charged with as­sault, reck­less en­dan­ger­ment and con­spir­acy in con­nec­tion with a Feb­ru­ary 2010 fight in­volving his girl­friend and three oth­er wo­men.

Of­ficer An­thony Al­ex­an­der was ar­res­ted Oct. 27 and sus­pen­ded from the po­lice force.

He will be fired after a man­dat­ory 30-day sus­pen­sion, the de­part­ment’s me­dia re­la­tions of­fice said in a prin­ted state­ment.

On Feb. 11, 2010, Al­ex­an­der and his girl­friend — whose name was not re­leased — were on the 600 block of Edis­on Ave. in Somer­ton when they be­came in­volved in a verbal and phys­ic­al al­ter­ca­tion with three oth­er wo­men.

The po­lice de­part­ment’s in­tern­al af­fairs bur­eau and the dis­trict at­tor­ney’s of­fice in­vest­ig­ated the case.

Al­ex­an­der is free on $2,000 bail and is sched­uled for a pre­lim­in­ary hear­ing on Nov. 29. ••
