Police are seeking the public’s help in identifying the two armed men who made off with jewelry worth more than $200,000 from the Belaggio jewelry store on the 2100 block of Cottman Ave. at 4:50 p.m. last Friday.
The men forced three employees into a rear office, removed trays of various types of jewelry from a counter and a safe, and fled on foot.
However, they were spotted by an off-duty officer who followed the men as they got into a green Ford Contour that was parked in a rear lot of a nearby Sears tire store. The officer was able to make out part of a Pennsylvania license tag. The number “2204” might be on the tag, police said.
The officer lost sight of the men and their vehicle.
Police believe the men are dangerous. Anyone who spots them should not approach them but instead, immediately call 911.
Both men were black. One was about 40 years old and 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall. He had a dark complexion and a reddish beard. His hair was close-cut. He was wearing a dark suit and a leather jacket and was armed with a black handgun.
The other man was 35 to 40 years old and stood about 6 feet tall. He had close-cut hair and was wearing a gray sweat suit, blue jeans and brown sunglasses with gold frames. He was carrying a silver handgun.
