Our readers are helping to deliver smiles

Day by day, the clock is ticking. So much to do, it seems, and so little time to do it. In just more than three weeks, families around the Northeast will be celebrating with loved ones, preoccupied by the joy and goodwill of the season.

But this holiday season won’t be so uplifting for all people, for all families. There are many right here in the Northeast — perhaps even a neighbor or friend, but most whom we’ll never know — who endure the season with disenchantment, an empty feeling brought on by the isolation or hardships of lives that don’t seem too blessed right now.
