Cops charge 'bad hair bandit' in Hyperion Bank robbery

Po­lice charged a North­east Philly man with an Oct. 12 bank rob­bery on Gir­ard Av­en­ue.

Po­lice have collared the man they be­lieve robbed a Gir­ard Av­en­ue bank on Oct. 12.

  Ac­cord­ing to Of­ficer Tan­ya Little of the pub­lic af­fairs unit, po­lice ar­res­ted Hec­tor Mar­tinez on Thursday, Oct. 27, and charged him with rob­bing the Hyper­ion Bank at 199 W. Gir­ard Ave.

Po­lice be­lieve the 29-year-old Mar­tinez, of the 6700 block of Tor­res­dale Av­en­ue, calmly strode in­to the bank branch at about 12:45 p.m. on Oct. 12 and pro­duced a note de­mand­ing cash.

After re­ceiv­ing an un­spe­cified amount of money, po­lice said Mar­tinez fled on foot.

  Fol­low­ing the rob­bery, po­lice re­leased a de­tailed de­scrip­tion of the sus­pect along with a still photo taken from sur­veil­lance foot­age.

  Con­tac­ted Monday, Oct. 31, Little couldn’t provide more de­tails on the ar­rest. Mar­tinez is charged with rob­bery and re­lated of­fenses. Little laughed, but provided no ex­plan­a­tion when asked about the pe­cu­li­ar hair­cut Mar­tinez spor­ted for his mug shot.
