Pedestrian killed by car

A mo­tor­ist struck and killed a wo­man as she was walk­ing across a street near her Ta­cony home on Sunday morn­ing.

Donna Diehl, 54, of the 6300 block of Gillespie St., was cross­ing Levick Street at about 8:10 a.m. when a west­bound 2002 Mit­subishi Lan­cer struck her, Phil­adelphia po­lice said.

Diehl lost con­scious­ness and suffered mul­tiple in­jur­ies to her head, arms and legs. She was pro­nounced dead about an hour later at Aria Health-Tor­res­dale.

The driver, who has not been iden­ti­fied, was a 63-year-old wo­man who re­mained at the scene un­til po­lice ar­rived, ac­cord­ing to a broad­cast re­port.

She claimed that she blew her horn and swerved to avoid Diehl, but the ped­es­tri­an did not re­spond and con­tin­ued walk­ing in­to the vehicle’s path. The driver has not been charged crim­in­ally. The crash re­mains un­der in­vest­ig­a­tion. ••
