Abraham Lincoln High students awarded scholarships

Three Ab­ra­ham Lin­coln High School seni­ors re­cently were awar­ded $1,000 col­lege schol­ar­ships from Com­cast.

Mah­buba Choudhury, Mal­colm Robin­son-Gonza­lez and Melinda Har­ris were giv­en the schol­ar­ships for their work with teach­ers in im­prov­ing Lin­coln’s at­tend­ance rates as part of the Get Mo­tiv­atED Chal­lenge.

The chal­lenge was con­duc­ted over six weeks.

Lin­coln stu­dents sub­mit­ted six videos that in­cluded a cheer from the school’s cheer­lead­ing squad, two pieces from ROTC groups, a group rap from by more than 20 stu­dents, a solo per­form­ance and a trio’s per­form­ance.

The chal­lenge was con­duc­ted by Get Schooled, a non-profit or­gan­iz­a­tion ded­ic­ated to us­ing me­dia and pop­u­lar cul­ture to im­prove high school gradu­ation rates as well as the num­bers of stu­dents go­ing on to col­lege. ••
