Normandy reserve center to be used as a police training facility

The Philadelphia Memorial Armed Forces Reserve Center on Woodhaven Road in Normandy will be used as a training facility for units of the Philadelphia Police Department.

Plop for the pools on Saturday

American Legion Playground, at 6201 Torresdale Ave. in Wissinoming, will host “Plop for the Pools” this Saturday at 2 p.m. The public is invited to enter the cow chip bingo contest. When the cow makes a dropping, the individual who has selected that particular space wins a cash prize. The event will raise money to keep all 70 of the city’s outdoor pools open this summer. Last year, more than $25,000 was raised. Other activities include face painting, a Moonbounce and a dunk tank.
