Fire damages Frankford homes

Flames inside a Frankford rowhouse caused heavy property damage but no injuries on Saturday afternoon, according to the Philadelphia Fire Department.

Firefighters were called to the 5300 block of Charles St. at 1:03 p.m., said Capt. Jeffrey Thompson, and found heavy flames on the second floor of the two-story dwelling. They also were told that children might be trapped on the second floor.

The responding companies entered the property and searched for victims while continuing to battle the blaze from the interior. But no rescues were necessary, Thompson said.

The flames were declared under control at 1:22 p.m. A cause of the fire remains under investigation. ••
