Firefighters to host benefit for Local 22 Widows’ Fund

Mem­bers of the Phil­adelphia Fire De­part­ment com­munity and the gen­er­al pub­lic are in­vited to at­tend the Mr. Philly Be­ne­fit for Loc­al 22 Wid­ows’ Fund on Wed­nes­day, Sept. 7, from 6 to 9 p.m., at Kings Oak in the Piazza, 1001 N. Second St., in North­ern Liber­ties.

The event will cel­eb­rate the Phil­adelphia launch of the Na­tion’s Bravest: Fire­fight­ers Unite cal­en­dar for 2012, fea­tur­ing Mr. Phil­adelphia and North­east nat­ive Jack Sliv­in­ski Jr., who com­mit­ted sui­cide fol­low­ing the pro­duc­tion of the cal­en­dar. 

Des­pite Sliv­in­ski’s death, his fam­ily en­cour­aged the cal­en­dar’s pro­du­cers to move for­ward with the pro­ject, which will raise money for fire­fight­er-re­lated char­it­ies around the na­tion, in­clud­ing the Loc­al 22 Wid­ows’ Fund in Phil­adelphia. Sliv­in­ski will be honored dur­ing the event.

Ad­mis­sion in­cludes cock­tails, cour­tesy of Tito’s Vodka and Co­ors Light, along with hors d’oeuvres by Kings Oak.

Cal­en­dars will be avail­able for pur­chase dur­ing the event, along with com­mem­or­ative T-shirts.

The Wid­ows’ Fund be­ne­fits the fam­il­ies of Phil­adelphia fire­fight­ers who have lost their lives in the line of duty. Loc­al 22 of the In­ter­na­tion­al As­so­ci­ation of Fire Fight­ers ad­min­is­ters the char­ity. ••
